Packet Tracer Challenge

Objective

• Test network connectivity a different points during activity

• Complete partial topology
• Complete IP addressing
• Router configuration
• Basic network documentation
• Configure ACLs
• Test ACLs

Background/Preparation

For this activity, you have been provided a beginning topology created with Packet Tracer. You are to
complete as much of the lab as possible in the given time. Each team will receive 100 points for each
step that is correctly completed.

Team members must rotate after each step while working on the activity.

Step 1 – Build IP Address Table

Open the Packet Tracer file “Retooling Lab Start” and use the mouse to point to each device to
reveal IP address information. Use the IP address information to begin filling out the IP Address Table
sheet.

Step 2 – Test Basic Connectivity

Before beginning, go to the Options menu and select Challenge Mode. Then make sure Packet
Tracer is in Realtime Mode. To begin testing, click on the device that the ping will originate from. If the
device is a PC, click on the Cmd Prompt tab. Enter the command ping with the IP address on the
device you wish to ping. The following ping should all be successfully.
a. Ping from Admin_2.2 to HQ_2
b. Ping from Admin_2.3 to HQ_2
c. Ping from Admin_2.4 to HQ_2
d. Ping from HQ_2 _ to HQ_1
e. Ping from E-mail_Server to HQ_1
f. Ping from Web_Server to HQ_1
g. Ping from HQ_1 _ to HQ_Main
h. Ping from HQ_Main to ISP

Step 3 – Complete Partial Topology

Add various devices to topology

a. Add an Access Point off the HQ_2 router
b. Add 3 PCs and connect to the Access Point
c. Name the PCs Conf_1.2, Conf_1.3, and Conf_1.4
d. Add a HR_Server off of ServerSW
e. Add a router off the ISP
f. Name the router Branch_Main
g. Connect Branch_Main to ISP
h. Add a switch off the Branch_Main router
i. Name the switch BranchSW
j. Connect BranchSW to Branch_Main
k. Add 3 PCs and connect to BranchSW
l. Name the PCs Admin_4.2, Prod_4.3, and Prod_4.4
m. Add a hub off of WorkgroupSW and connect to WorkgroupSW
n. Name the hub Prod_Hub
o. Add 3 PCs and connect to Prod_Hub
p. Name the PCs Prod_2.130, Prod_2.131, and Prod_2.132

Step 4 – Complete the IP Addressing

The new devices added must now be given an IP address.

a. Use the upper half of the 10.0.2.0/24 network to address the three workstations off the Prod_Hub.
b. Use the 10.0.1.0/24 network to address the HQ_2 interface 1/0 and three wireless workstations
attached
c. Use the 10.0.3.0/24 network to address the HR_Server.
d. Use the 200.10.63.28/30 network to address the link between ISP and Branch_Main.
e. Use the 10.0.4.0/24 network to address the Branch_Main interface 0/0 and three workstations
attached

Step 5 – Build IP Address Table

At this point, all devices should have been added and should be address. Use the mouse to point to
each device to reveal IP address information. Use the IP address information to complete the IP
Address Table sheet.
Step 6 – Router Configuration

Turn off the Simple Mode and turn on the Challenge Mode. Complete basic router configuration.

a. Configure the proper routing protocol (additional statements may be required)

b. Verify IP addressing
c. Verify clocking on serial interfaces
d. Verify that the appropriate interfaces are up
e. Verify routing tables

Step 7 – Test Connectivity

Before beginning, go to the Options menu and select Challenge Mode. Then make sure Packet
Tracer is in Realtime Mode. To begin testing, click on the device the ping will originate from. Then
choose the Cmd Prompt tab and enter the desired ping command. The following ping should all be
successfully.
a. Ping from Admin_2.2 to Admin_4.2
b. Ping from Admin_2.2 to Prod_4.3
c. Ping from Prod_2.130 to Prod_4.3
d. Ping from Prod_2.131 to Conf_1.2
e. Ping from Prod_2.132 to each of the three servers
f. Ping from Admin_2.2 to each of the three servers
NOTE: If any pings are unsuccessful, go back and check the routing tables. Are all the routes
there? Look at the configuration of the routing protocol. Is there anything missing?

Step 8 – Basic Documentation

Use show commands to create network documentation.

a. What version IOS is HQ_2 running? __________________________________________________

b. What version IOS is HQ_1 running? __________________________________________________
c. What version IOS is HQ_Main running? _______________________________________________
d. What platform are HQ_2 neighbors? _________________________________________________
e. What platform are HQ_1 neighbors? _________________________________________________
f. What platform are HQ_Main neighbors? ______________________________________________
g. What version advertisements is HQ_Main CDP sending? _________________________________
Step 9 – Access Control List configuration

Turn off the Simple Mode and turn on the Challenge Mode. Configure and apply access control list
according to the following information.
a. Block access from all devices attached to the Prod_Hub to the HR_Server.
b. Allow access to all devices from all Admin workstations.
c. Block all access outside the Branch network from all Production workstations attached to
BranchSW

Step 10 – Test Access Control List

Use the Simulation Mode to ping the following devices to test the ACLs. Create different scenarios for
each group of test.

Scenario 0
a. Ping from Prod_2.130 to HR_Server
b. Ping from Prod_2.131 to HR_Server Should fail
c. Ping from Prod_2.132 to HR_Server
Scenario 1
d. Ping from Prod_4.3 to HR_Server
e. Ping from Prod_4.3 to E-Mail_Server Should fail
f. Ping from Prod_4.3 to Web_Server
Scenario 2
g. Ping from Prod_4.4 to Admin_2.3
h. Ping from Prod_4.3 to Conf_1.2 Should fail
i. Ping from Prod_4.3 to Prod_2_130
Scenario 3
j. Ping from Prod_2.132 to E-Mail_Server
Should not fail
k. Ping from Prod_2.132 to Web_Server
Scenario 4
l. Ping from Admin_2.2 to Admin_4.2
m. Ping from Admin_2.2 to HR_Server
n. Ping from Admin_2.2 to E-Mail_Server Should not fail
o. Ping from Admin_2.2 to Web_Server
p. Ping from Admin_4.2 to Conf_1.2
