Features of CAT5, CAT6 AND CAT7

CAT 5

 Category 5 transmits at 100MHz frequencies, providing

a rated line speed of up to 100Mbit/s and a max cable segment
length of 100 meters.
 Most Category 5 cables, designed for early networks,
only used two twisted pairs.

CAT 6

 The mainstream adoption of Gigabit Ethernet

(1000BASE-T) required new industry-standard cables capable
of transmitting at a higher frequency of 250 MHz.
 Category 6 cable uses thicker-gauge wire, increased
shielding, and more pair twists per inch to reduce signal noise
and interference.
 The tighter specifications guarantee that 100-meter
runs of Category 6 are capable of 1000 Cat Mbit/s transfer
speeds.
 10-Gigabit Ethernet speeds are achievable when

reducing cable lengths to less than 50 meters.

CAT 7

CAT7 cable features additional shielding, protecting individual

wire pairs, as well as foil shielding over the cable as a whole.

The twisting of the wire pairs and the number of turns per unit
length further increases the RF shielding, protecting the CAT7 from
crosstalk.
CAT7 cable allows for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over 100m of copper
cable.
POWER OVER ETHERNET (POE)

 Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology for wired Ethernet LANs (local area networks)
that allows the electrical current necessary for the operation of each device to be carried
by the data cables rather than by power cords.

 Doing so minimizes the number of wires that must be strung in order to install the
network
.
 The result is lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance, and greater installation
flexibility than with traditional wiring.

 To minimize the possibility of damage to equipment in the event of a malfunction, the

more sophisticated PoE systems employ fault protection.

 This feature shuts off the power supply if excessive current or a short circuit is detected.
RJ45 AND RJ11

 RJ-45
 RJ-45 is an 8-pin connection used for Ethernet network adapters.
 This connector resembles the RJ-11 or 6-pin connector used with telephones
in the United States,
 But they're completely different. The picture is of a RJ-45 connector
separated from the cable.
 This connector is most commonly connected to the end of Cat5cable, which is
connected between a computer network card and a network device such as a
network router.

RJ 11
 A registered jack-11 (RJ-11) is a 6-position 2-conductor
telephone connector/jack (6P2C) with 4 positions unused.

 RJ-11 is commonly used to connect the telephone handset to

the base unit, and the entire telephone to the wall outlet.

 A registered Jack-11 can also be used to connect LANs, but RJ-

45 connectors are more commonly used for this purpose.
