To : First Year Students

From : Satish Deodhar

Chairperson, PGP

1. Academic Calendar

The Academic Calendar for the second year programme in 2018-19, divided into three
terms is given in Appendix 1. Second year fee structure is given in Appendix 2.

2. Summer Placement Certificate

You are also required to submit to the Placement Office on the reopening date, the Summer
Placement certificate duly completed in all respects. If you fail to do so, you will not be
permitted to register for the second year programme.

3. Second Year Curriculum

Total Credit requirement for the year will be a Minimum of 20 credits and a
Maximum of 23 credits under any combination of courses in different terms, subject
to the maximum and minimum credit requirement for each term as specified in the
table below:

Required Credits for Each term

and Total for the Year
Minimum Maximum
Term 4* 7 9
Term 5 6 8
Term 6 5 7
Total Permitted 20 Credits 23 Credits
* Including core courses of 1.00 credits

You must choose the electives at the time of bidding itself.

4. List of Second Year Courses

A list of second year elective courses to be offered during Term 4 is given in Appendix 3.

Subject to condition that may be applicable, you may register for maximum 3 courses
across the other programmes (FPM, PGP-ABM and PGPX) during the academic year 2018-
19.

5. FPM Courses

You may take FPM courses subject to the following conditions:

You may register for one FPM course per term with the prior permission of the
instructor(s) concerned. (According to FPM guidelines, not more than four PGP students
can register for any one FPM course.)

Please note that if the FPM courses are not chosen by enough participants from that
programme, those courses may not be offered. The list of FPM courses proposed to be
offered during Term 4 is enclosed as Appendix 4.

You are required to mention the full title of the course you wish to register for and the
name of the instructor(s). You are also required to obtain the consent letter from the
instructor concerned and submit to the PGP office at least a day before the registration. In
the absence of this information, your registration to the FPM Course will not be valid.

7. PGP-FABM Courses

Please note that if the PGP-FABM courses are not chosen by enough participants from that
programme, those courses may not be offered. The list of FABM courses proposed to be
offered during Term 4 is also as attached as Appendix 5.

8. Term Break Courses

You are permitted to register for up to 1.25 credits for courses offered during a
break which is less than two weeks. You may account the “between-term course”
credits towards either of the adjoining terms, up to a maximum of 1.25 credits in
each term (to ensure a balanced workload across terms).

9. Registration Formalities

a. Announcement: The courses on offer will be announced five or six weeks before
start of the relevant term.

b. Course Bidding: You are required to bid for Term 4 courses now. The dynamic
bidding process for the courses will be conducted by the Academic Council 2018-
19.

The bidding process for Term 4 is strictly binding on you in the sense that the
electives you finally choose for Term 4 have to be from among the elective courses
you have either won or are waitlisted during the dynamic bidding process. You will
not be permitted to register for fresh courses, even if there are vacant seats. (This is
because the entire PGP academic planning is done on the basis of the bidding
results from the dynamic bidding of courses. You are advised to think carefully
during the bidding process to ensure that you get to do the courses you really want
to.)

c. Bidding Workshop: A bidding workshop may be organized by the Students'

Academic Council soon after the course announcement, to enable you to seek more
information on the bidding process and the courses being offered. You may, if you
wish, meet the instructors concerned to obtain more details about the courses you
wish to select. If necessary, the PGP Office would arrange a meeting between you
and the instructors.

d. Dropping of courses after pre-registration: Courses with pre-registration of less

than 20 students will be dropped as soon as pre-registration is completed. This rule
may not applicable in the following situations:

i. If a course with less than 20 registrations is offered for the first time,
ii. If the course with less than 20 registrations forms part of a concentration
package and at least five students opt for the package.

Courses which are dropped can be converted to a project course, if the interested
pre-registered students and the instructor wish to do so.

Students pre-registered for courses which are dropped and not converted to a
project course can register for other courses.

e. Scheduling of Classes: Several courses will be scheduled simultaneously.

While every effort will be made by the PGP Office to respect your choice of
courses, it may not be possible for every course. So you must choose your
term courses within the framework of the tentative timetable, which will be
forwarded to your Acads Council.

f. Registration: You are required to fill in the regular course registration

form on the term opening date, Tuesday, June 5, 2018 with the PGP Office
after payment of Term 4 fees at the Accounts Office. Your registration
should be strictly within the pre-registered courses.

Students, who fail to register on the reopening date without prior

permission of the Chairperson, PGP, are deemed to have withdrawn from
the programme. In special circumstances a student may be permitted to
register late, in which case she/he will be required to pay a late registration
fee as decided by the Chairperson, PGP and which in no case will be less
than Rs.4000 per day.

g. Final Registration: You are expected to attend classes of all pre-registered

courses, if scheduled, during the first week of the term. At the end of the
first week, you would be required to submit your final choice of courses for
the term.

However, if the classes of any of the courses that you have pre-registered
begin either after the first week or mid-way of the term, you would be
permitted to finalize the registration of such courses after attending 2-3
classes. You would be permitted to drop a course. Any further drop of
courses will only be subject to approval of Chairperson, PGP and payment of
fine as applicable. While exercising your option to drop a course, you will
have to ensure that the requirements for a term are met.

h. Withdrawal of Course Offerings after Final Registration: After final

registration, new courses with less than twenty students may be dropped
and other courses with less than twenty students will be dropped; or
converted to a project course with the consent of the instructor and the
students.

Students pre-registered for courses which are dropped and not converted
to a project course can register for other courses. No concession is given
for missed classes or any segments of evaluation as a result of changes in
the first week. No change of elective courses is permitted after the last
date for finalizing electives in a term.

The students must not to register for courses which have clash of class schedule
with other course(s) in the timetable given to you. Any shortfall of attendance
due to violation of this condition will be solely the responsibility of the
participant.
