Introduction

Intel Learning Series Labcam by WebCam Laboratory (hereafter referred to as LabCam) is a webcam based natural science
exploration and data logging laboratory that allows students and teachers to carry out substantial scientific observations
and measurements, using a computer, the software and a simple, everyday webcam.

The software has six functions which are very easy to use, incorporating intuitive, icon based user interfaces. Labcam
creates a great link between work in the classroom and at home, but also encourages independent experiments that can be
carried out effectively, giving further boost to science based subject studies. LabCam sparks enthusiasm in children towards
natural science subjects, bringing out the congenital scientist that lives in most K12 student.

This User Guide provides an overview of the components and features of LabCam.

Enjoy experimenting!

Time Lapse Cam

The Time Lapse Cam function helps you observe, and better understand the slow processes of nature such as the formation and migration of clouds,
ice melting, the growth of plants, etc. The software allows selecting specified interval shots and then stitches these images into a coherent stream
of video.

Time Lapse Cam

Within the Time Lapse Cam function the web camera will start right away unless you have previously connected another one. If you did so, a menu
will pop up where you may select the camera you wish to use, as well the frame rate and resolution. The web camera is automatically preset for
optimal settings.

(1) Start/view/change camera | You may set/change the frame rate and the resolution or switch to another web camera.

(2a) Set time between snapshots | You may set the frequency of pictures to be taken using a scroll bar, or the frame rate input box.

(2b) Timed recording | If you do not wish to present and control the experiment, you can set up the starting time and duration of the recording
and Labcam will do the recording for you. In an order to have your experiment captured, you have to simply have the computer and the Time Lapse
module turned on. If you close the program during the recording, your video will be lost, however you can stop (save) your recording by clicking on
the Start/stop recording button.

 (3) Start/stop recording | Press this button to start recording, press on it once again to stop your recording.

(4) Show video | You may select and launch your previously recorded videos, by simply clicking on them.
At the recorded video section, you can see the date, the end date of the recording time and the length of your previously recorded videos.
You may delete your videos by selecting them and clicking on the trashcan button. It will prompt you if you really want to delete the
selected video. You may open the file in the corresponding folder if you click on the folder icon.

(5) Set display settings | You can select/unselect the following:

• Show Timestamp: it shows the exact date and time, it will appear on the bottom left side of the display.
• Show Length of Recording: it shows you the length of the video being recorded during the experiment, it appears in the upper right hand
corner of the display.
• Show Frame Counter: it will show the number of recorded frames during the recording and display it in the upper center part of the
screen.
• Show Frame Intervals: shows the remaining amount of time until the next picture will be taken.

(6) List view | You can select the file view types here (small or large thumbnails, list with details).
(7) Video player
• Rewind: it will jump back 0.5 sec/appr. 20 frames in time.

• Pause: it will pause the video recording.

• Play: it will start your videoplay in regular speed.

• Forward: you can jump ahead 0.5 sec/ appr. 20 frames in time.

9
Kinematics

The Kinematics function allows tracking of the horizontal and vertical movement characteristics (displacement, velocity, and acceleration) of one or
more objects in real time. After an initial calibration, the measurement units can be set as well. The software is able to capture a maximum of 3
selected objects at the same time, allowing complex kinematic experiments.

(6) Analyze recorded data | A diagram window will appearwhere you have the following options:
• Print: print out your diagram.
• Save: save your diagram in a .png picture format.
• Save data: you can save your data in .csv and .xls formats.
• C ut: click on the scissor icon and red active area will appear which can be manipulated and be moved around in order to cut the relevant
part of the diagram.

• Movement in time bar: You may scroll back and forth in your timeline.
•Graph density bar: You may focus on a particular time or time period moving the scroll bar.
• Zoom: Manipulate the vertical curve setting of the graph.

Other features of the diagram:

Hover over any point of measurement in the diagram andthe details of the measurement data (time, value) will appear. By clicking on the curves, you
may move them vertically (button along the y-axis) and scaling of the vertical axis (vertical slider on the far right).
If you forgot to select Displacement, Velocity, or Acceleration during your experiment there is no problem, the software measures all of them during
the experiment. If you select them here in diagram mode, their diagram curves will appear.

(7) Determination of object | The object(s) are indicated by colorful outlines one the screen.
