SUBJECT: New Version of Diagnostic Link Software--DDDL 6.2

Detroit Diesel is proud to announce the newest version of our Diagnostic Link software, DDDL
6.2. The DDDL 6.2 software version continues to offer all of the great features and benefits
users have come to rely on, and now includes these new features: Coverage for DDEC V,
Release 2, DDEC IV Release 39 and VCU Release 14.21; New data included in the Trip,
Monthly and Life to Date Reports; Updated VCU/PLD instrumentation to speed up data
rates; Integrated MBE troubleshooting guide to enhance diagnostic efficiency.

In addition, the serial port kit (p/n J-47500-DCD) now includes NEXIQ’s Lite Link adapter to
maximize PC compatibility and allow USB interface for those who need it. To interface via USB,
obtain a serial to USB adapter from one of the large electronics outlets (Best Buy, Circuit
City, etc.) and use it with Lite Link. The Lite Link kit is also available without DDDL software
directly from DDC. Order p/n 551004DE.

As with past DDDL releases, a parallel port interface kit is available (p/n J-47100-C). A parallel
to USB adapter is also available for those with parallel port kits who require USB interface.

Diagnostic Link 6.2 is a comprehensive software program now supporting DDEC III / IV / V, all
software versions of the MBE 900 and 4000 On Highway engines and DDEC Reports.

As part of the Essential Tool Program guidelines, you must purchase DDDL 6.2 for your
location. Only one copy per location is required, but additional copies can be ordered by
contacting SPX Kent-Moore directly at 800-328-6657.

• Can I upgrade from an older version of DDDL to version 6.2?


Yes. There is an upgrade program for users of older versions of DDDL. You can
purchase an upgrade for a fee by calling 800-328-6657. Users of DDDL 2.x to 4.x will
order part number J-DDDL-6.2UP2 and users of DDDL 5.0-6.1 should order part number
J-DDDL –6.2UP.

• Do I need to register the DDDL 6.2 software?


Possibly. DDDL 6.2must be registered if you are a new user, or if you are upgrading
from any version older than 5.0. You must receive a new tool ID number reflecting the
purchase of the DDDL 6.2 software.

• Will DDDL 6.2work with all of the current Windows operating systems like DDDL version
4.2 and 6.1 does?
Yes. DDDL 6.2 will work with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP operating systems.

• Will 6.2 still have coverage for DDEC II, III and IV?
Yes. Diagnostic Link 6.2 has coverage for DDEC II, III, IV, V and the MBE 900 and
4000 on highway engines, including the 2004 EGR engines.

• What Versions of VCU /PLD does DDDL 6.2 cover for MBE?
DDDL version 6.2 covers the following VCU/PLD diagnostic versions and software
versions:
o VCU Diagnostic version 150 with Software version 10 through 11.03
o VCU Diagnostic version 151 with Software version 12
o VCU Diagnostic version 152 with Software version 13

• How do I load the training material and other DDC documents on my PC, which are
provided on the DDDL CD so they are easily accessible?
o In version 6.1 or later all of the information provided on the CD may be
automatically be loaded onto your hard drive for easy access during the
installation process. This allows the technician to refer to the valuable
documents and training material without having to insert the CD into the PC.
Now all the reference material is available even if the CD is not.

• Do I need to purchase different hardware than I currently use for my DDEC engines to
connect to my MBE engine with DDDL?
No. There is no need to purchase additional hardware for the MBE engines. The
hardware and connectors are the same for both DDEC and MBE.

• Do I have to make a selection to distinguish between a DDEC and MBE engine before I
can begin using DDDL?
No. DDDL has a feature to automatically recognize which engine you are connecting to.

• Can I use DDEC Reports with the MBE Engines?


Yes. DDEC Reports will work with MBE engines with VCU Software version 12.09 and
later.
