CHAPTER lll

REASEARCH METHODOLOGIES / RESEARCH DESIGNS

This chapter presents the methodologies and sampling techniques used in this entire study as

well as the designs and data collection techniques.

The main objective of this study is to identify and distinguish the readiness and preparedness

of the employees about earthquake. The specific objectives are as under :

 To evaluate the materials needed in an earthquake preparation

 To identify if there were enough materials in the clinic needed in this kind of phenomenon

 To know if the students know where to locate the evacuation places or meeting areas

 To determine the state of preparedness of the school to respond in such disaster

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at the Bataan National High School since the nurse and some teachers

and students of the senior high school are our respondents.

Research Design

In order for us to know the readiness and preparedness of the school of Bataan National High

School in earthquake, the phenomenology research design was used.

According to Edmund Husserl , phenomenology method is thus neither the deductive method of

logic nor the empirical method of the natural sciences; instead it consists in realizing the presence

of an object and elucidating its meaning through intuition. Phenomenology is a broad discipline

and method of inquiry in philosophy, developed largely by the German philosophers Edmund
Husserl and Martin Heidegger, which is based on the premise that reality consists of objects and

events ("phenomena") as they are perceived or understood in the human consciousness, and not of

Sampling Designs

The study used Non – Probability sampling technique which is the Purposive or Judgemental

Sampling as well as the voluntary sampling. The nurse in the clinic of the BNHS and some of the

students and teacher are our target respondents.

Research Instrument

An interview was used in gathering and collecting the datas needed by the researcher. We

used unstructured interview. Since the nurse was out of the school , we interviewed her through

the use of mobile phones. But still, she allowed us, the researchers, to go inside the clinic and ask

her assistant to go with what ever we ask about this study. We also asked some of our fellow

students and teachers in senior high school to answers some of our questions about how they react

about earthquake preparedness in their beloved Alma Mater.
