IBM's Watson

By Thomas Kennett

What is Watson
Watson is IBM's version of cutting
edge AI he is a program comprised of
multiple language analysis, automated
reasoning, and machine learning
processes. They all work together to
work through millions of terabytes of
data and cross reference them into a
single well written response.

HARDWARE

Around two years ago Watson ran on a

multitude of 3.5 ghz Power7 eight
core processors. It also has 90 IBM
Power 750 servers producing an
approximate 16 terabytes of RAM

What can this hardware do

Whats has a processing power of 500
gigabytes a second and can process
around 1, 000, 000 books a second. In
comparison to the .00005 books a
second humans can process.
With this he was given access to
millions of news articles,
encyclopedias, thesauruses,
ontologies, and numerous other large
sources of data.

Achievements

Inmedical
2013 Watson joined his first commercial
job at memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancel center managing lung cancer decisions
and the majority of the nurses following his
lead.
 In 2011, he won jeopardy on live air without
internet connection.

Conclusion
Programs like Watson are the future of big data analysis and despite IBM's slow decline in
revenue I predict once Watson is rolling full force they will be able to fund further
development of Watson and improve his hardware to push it further into the furture.
