Psalm 1

‎ ‫ ַ ֥א ְ ֽש ֵרי־הָ ִ ֗איש‬‎
1 Blessed is the man
‫ל ֹא הָ לַ ך‬ ֥ ‫א ֲֶש֤ר׀‬ who does not walk
‫ש ִע֥ים‬ ָ ֫ ‫בַ ע ֲַצ֪ת ְר‬ in the council of the unjust,
‫ל ֹא עָ ָמ֑ד‬֥ ‫וב ֶד ֶ֣רך ַח֭טָ ִאים‬ ְ does not stand on the path of error,
‫ָשב׃‬ ֽ ָ ‫ל ֹא י‬
֣ ‫ל ִ֗צים‬ֵ ֝ ‫מוש֥ב‬ ַ ‫וב‬ ְ does not sit at the seat of the scorner.

‎ ‫תורת יְ ה ָו֗ה ֫ ֶח ְפצ֥ ו‬

2 ֥ ַ ‫כי ִ ֥אם ְב‬ִ֤‎ For if his delight is in the law of the LORD,
‫ָליְ לָ ה׃‬
ֽ ָ ‫יומ֥ם ו‬
ָ ‫תורת֥ ו י ְֶה ֗ ֶגה‬
ָ ‫וֽ ְב‬ and he meditates on his law night and day,

‎ ֮ ‫ ְוֽהָ ָי֗ה ְכעֵ ץ‬‎

3 He will be like a tree
‫שָ ת֪ ול ַ ֽעל־פַ ְל ֵג֫י ָמ֥יִ ם‬ planted upon the channels of the sea
‫א ֲֶש֤ר ִפ ְרי֨ו׀ יִ ֬ ֵתן ְב ִע ֗תו‬ which gives its fruits at its time.
‫וְ עָ ֵל֥הו ֽל ֹא־יִ ב֑ ול‬ Its leaves will not fade1
‫יח׃‬
ַ ‫כל אֲשֶ ר־ ַיע ֲֶש֣ה י ְַצ ִ ֽל‬ ֹ ֖ ְ‫ו‬ and everything it does will be successful

‎4 ‫ֹא־כ֥ן הָ ְרשָ ִע֑ים‬

ֵ ‫ל‬‎ Not so the unjust,
‫ם־כ ֹ֗מץ‬
ַ֝ ‫ִ ֥כי ִא‬ for they are like the chaff
‫וח׃‬
ַ ‫ר־ת ְד ֶפ֥נו ֽר‬
ִ ֶ‫אֲש‬ that the wind blows away.

‎5 ‫רשָ ִעים ַב ִמ ְש ָפ֑ט‬ ֭ ְ ‫ָקמו‬

֣ ֻ ‫ל־כ֤ן׀ ל ֹא־י‬
ֵ ַ‫ ע‬‎ Thus the unjust will not arise in the place of
‫יקים׃‬ ֽ ִ ‫ֲדת צַ ִד‬ ֥ ַ ‫וְ ֝חַ טָ ִ ֗אים בַ ע‬ judgement,
nor the errant at the council of the just.

‎6 ‫יקים‬
֑ ִ ‫י־יוד֣עַ יְ ֭הוָה ֶד ֶ֣רך צַ ִד‬
ֵ ‫ ִ ֽכ‬‎ For the LORD knows the way of the just,
‫ֹאבד׃‬
ֽ ֵ ‫ד ֶרך ְרשָ ִע֣ים ת‬ ֖ ֶ ְ‫ו‬ but the way of the unjust will perish.

1The word for wither here, ‫י ִ֑בול‬, is probably

purposely used to echo the word ‫נָבַל‬, foolishness
