2. Scheme of GCE A Level Exam Papers
Two 3-hour papers, each carrying 50% of the total marks,
and each marked out of 100, as follows:

Paper 1 (3 hours, 100 marks)


- About 10 to 12 questions of different lengths and marks
based on the Pure Mathematics section of the syllabus

There will be at least two questions on application of


Mathematics in real-world contexts, including those from
sciences and engineering. Each question will carry at
least 12 marks and may require concepts and skills from
more than one topic.

- Candidates will be expected to answer ALL questions.


2. Scheme of GCE A Level Exam Papers
Paper 2 (3 hours, 100 marks)
- Consists of 2 Sections:
Section A: Pure Maths (40 Marks)
(About 3 to 4 qns of different marks & lengths)

Section B: Statistics (60 Marks)


(About 6 to 8 qns of different marks & lengths)

- Candidates will be expected to answer ALL questions

- There will be at least two questions in Section B on


application of Mathematics in real-world contexts, including
those from sciences and engineering. Each question will
carry at least 12 marks and may require concepts and skills
from more than one topic.

Each week consists of :

•2 x 1hr Lecture
•1 x 1hr + 1 x 1.5hr Tutorial

6. Habits to adopt
During lectures

1. Pay attention during lectures and take down notes.


2. Ensure lecture notes were complete.
3. Read through your notes after every lecture.
4. Cover up the worked solutions and re-do the lecture notes
examples.

Before doing Tutorials

5. Read through your notes before doing tutorials.


6. Prepare your work before every tutorial lesson.

During Tutorials

7. Pay attention in class during tutorials and take down notes.


8. Ask questions during tutorials when in doubt.
9. Go through your tutorial again after every tutorial lesson and
do corrections.
10. Complete and submit your tutorials and assignments on time.
6. Habits to adopt
Before a test / exam

11. Go through the lecture notes before a test.

12. Cover up the solutions and re-do your tutorials before a test.

13. Complete the Supplementary Exercises before a test.

14. Download the solutions for Supplementary Exercises and mark your
work.
15. For the questions that were wrong, re-do the questions on your own
without referring to the solutions, after understanding the solutions given.

16. Consult your friends or tutor whenever you have any doubts.

17. Ensure your Lecture Notes, Tutorials, Assignments, Tests, Supplementary


Exercises are all filed up neatly for easy reference before any assessment.
7. Expectations
All students are expected to:

• Attend ALL lectures and tutorials PUNCTUALLY.

• Submit completed Tutorials & Assignments


(together) promptly.
• File ALL materials neatly in TWO files.

8. Beyond A Level H2 Math…
H3 Mathematics
Applicants must:
1. have obtained an overall ‘A’ grade for H2 Math.
2. have obtained either ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade for the rest of their
H2 and H1 content subjects.
3. have obtained a pass in GP promotional examination.
4. be recommended by Math Tutor.
5. be recommended by Civics Tutor.
