Splash, Happee Toothpaste, Pascual Laboratories

- Splash Corporations:History
The corporation started as a backyard-business in 1859 and was originally called RBH
Cosmetics.
Dr. Rolando and Rosalinda Hortaleza bought a special cuticle remover formula from a
cousin and started their business with acetone, cuticle remover, and cold wave lotion. After
1 year in business, RBH made a profit of a little over 100,000 pesos which grew to Php 1
Million when they launched their hairspray product. By this time, the company was already
called Splash Corporation.

Extract

In 1989, Splash launched the first ever facial cleanser that is made from natural ingredients
called All Natural Extract Facial Cleanser. It is made from Avocado and Cucumber variants.

Splash is known for being one of the first to introduce the technology of using natural
ingredients for personal care products.

Their Extract lotions, soaps, deodorants, and facial cleansers are all composed of either
Papaya-Calamansi, Green Papaya-Calamansi, or Cucumber, White Tea, Licorice, and
Avocado for the facial cleansers

Extract- VCO

Another product under Extract is Extract Virgin Coconut Oil which is made from combined
extracts and Philippine Virgin Coconut Oil.

Among Extract VCO products are body cream/oil, warming massage cream/oil, body scrub,
hot oil treatment, and shampoo.

Extraderm

In 1991, Splash launched Extraderm Exfoliant Plus. This is the first ever exfoliant product
introduced to the Philippines. This product gave birth to a new category in the Philippine
personal care market-the exfoliant category.

Maxi-Peel

Maxi-Peel is the leading exfoliant brand in the country. It is composed of combined Tretinoin
and Hydroquinone which helps treat mild, moderate to severe cases of acne.
Tretinoin- the acid form of Vitamin A, it is also called Retin A, most commonly used to treat
acne.
Hydroquinone- also known as bleaching cream, used to lighten dark areas on face like
freckles, acne, and scars.

Biolink

In 2003, Splash launched another top-selling brand called Biolink.


Biolink Green Papaya- Uses the whitening power of papain which is proved to be most
abundant in green papaya and pearl cream.
Papain- an enzyme found in unripe green papayas. It is usually used to tenderize meat but
is also used in skin care products for it has the ability to dissolve dead skin cells.
Biolink Tea Tree Oil- Feminine wash that uses tea tree oil to ensure the superior intimate
cleanliness of the Filipina.
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) - from Australian Tea Trees, used to treat acne, cuts,
burns, insect bites, fungus, and other. skin and skalp disorders.
Biolink VCO- Uses VCO7 Hydrolock technology to combine Virgin Coconut Oil with 7 other
natural moisturizers. Products include, hot oil treatment, shampoo, intensive moisturizing
hand and body lotion, moisturizing bath soap.

Hiyas Papaya Soap

Hiyas Organics Orange Papaya Whitening Soap- fuses nature-derived extract of orange
papaya with other vitamins. Improved with intensiWHITE+ that deliver superior whitening
and natural moisturizing.

Going Global

In 1993, Splash Corporation started selling their products in international markets namely
Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. Later on in the year 1996, Splash entered Saudi
Arabia and Bahrain. In 1998 they even grew bigger and opened their market in Oman and
Qatar.

Splash Research Institute

In 1997, the Splash Research Institute was established. In 2003, the SRI facility was
inaugurated by Former President Corazon C. Aquino. They aim to look for new sources that
would satisfy the growing needs of the personal care industry by using cutting-edge
technology and highly-skilled researchers.Splash aims to be the premiere research facility in
Asia.

Lamoiyan Corporation

Dr. Pedro’s company started out in the 1970‘s as a supplier business of metal toothpaste
tubes to big companies like Colgate-Palmolive, Procter and Gamble, and PRC. However,
when these companies started using plastic tubes for their products, Dr. Pedro had no other
choice but to close his business. Good thing he thought of putting up his own toothpaste
brand so that his machinery won’t be put to waste. Thus, the birth of Hapee Toothpaste.

At the time when Hapee was just starting out, multinational companies dominated 99% of
the consumer market. This was eventually brought down to 65% and Happee became the
#3 toothpaste brand in the Philippines. Dr. Pedro was able to compete with multi-nationals
like Colgate by lowering his price. When competitors also lowered their prices though, Dr.
Pedro resorted to diversifying his market. Hapee toothpaste is particularly known for their
Kiddie Toothgels. Dr. Pedro invented toothpaste with fruity flavors which helped in
expanding their market. The uniqueness of this product helped him compete with toothpaste
giants like Colgate and Close-up. The toothpaste flavors include Apple Crunch, Juicy
Grapes, Tutti-Frutti Twist, Strawberry Bloom, and Orange Squezze.

Gumtect

Another premiere product of the corporation is Gumtect, the first ever Filipino gum formula
toothpaste that is accepted by the Philippine Dental Association. It is proven to fight gum
problems/sensitivity. Bigger international companies did not consider gum formula
toothpaste as a profitable product, making Gumtect one of the few products of its kind
available in the market.
Gumtect is formulated with:
1. Allantoin– It helps promote healthy gums by stimulating the growth of new tissues.
2. Vitamin E- Acts as a moisturizer. It ensures healthy gums and teeth by soothing and
smoothing damaged tissues.
3. Triclosan- An active germicide that is known to reduce plaque and tartar build up.

Fresher Feminine Wash


A gentle feminine wash that makes use of milk-derived lactic acid and lactoserum. This
makes the product gentle and mild even on sensitive skin. It is the only feminine wash which
contains a breakthrough Herbal Essence Moisture Plus and essential oils and vitamins that
helps young women stay fresh.
Going Global

Lamoiyan corporation has reserved 100 Million pesos to expand the brand in countries like
China, Vietnam, and Asia. The corporation aims to be the Colgate of Asia. In order to do
this, their goal is to expand and make their company bigger and bigger.

Pascual Laboratories

A pharmaceutical company in Philippines that has been in business for 56 years.


They produce herbal food supplements and medicines. They have their own farms that
grows these proven medicinal herbs organically. These herbs are processed into capsules,
tablets and syrups the pharmaceutical way.

Ascof:Lagundi Leaf

The only natural cough syrup in the Philippines that is extensively researched and clinically
proven effective. Ascof is made from 100% Lagundi leaves which were organically nurtured
in a farm and without synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Lagundi- one of the ten approved herbal medicines by DOH. It contains Chrysoplenol D, a
substance with anti-histamine and muscle relaxant properties.

Releaf: Sambong

Acts as anti-urolithiasis medicine for patients with Urinary Tract Stones.

Sambong- one of the ten herbal medicines approved by DOH. Known to effectively dissolve
kidney stones, aids in treating hypertension and rheumatism, treats colds and sore throat,
acts as an astringent.

Amargozin: Ampalaya
Food supplement for blood sugar management.
Ampalaya=contains a mixture of flavanoids and alkaloids make the Pancreas produce more
insulin that controls the blood sugar in diabetics. Aside from Ampalaya's medicinal value, it is
good source of vitamins A, B and C, iron, folic acid, phosphorous and calcium.
Flavanoids- also known as Vitamin P, a class of plant secondary metabolite. Ketone-
containing compounds
Alkaloids- organic compound containing at least one nitrogen atom in a heteryocyclic ring.

Diaban: Banaba
Food Supplement for diabetics weight management.
Banaba- has an active ingredient called corosolic acid which has an insulin like effect that
lowers glucose levels in the body. It is being known widely as an insulin plant.
Corosolic Acid- known as 2alpha-hydroxyursolic acid with a pentacyclic titerpene structure
(contains five rings).
