Dear Sir/Madam:

I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Krista Laurie. I have known Ms. Laurie
since January 2018, as her Population Health and Community Nursing theory and clinical
instructor. Ms. Laurie shows excellence in all her work. She is respectful, thoughtful, and
genuinely cares about helping people get and stay well. Highlights of Ms. Laurie’s population
based work include:

 Assessment: Ms. Laurie applied the nursing process and performed, in conjunction with
her team members, a thorough community assessment of a census tract in Tucson, AZ.
The assessment included data on the population, interviews of residents, analysis of the
quantitative and qualitative data, implementation, and evaluation of an educational
project.

 Teaching: Ms. Laurie, with her team, developed and presented a culturally sensitive
nutrition education program to 15 Native American 4th graders.

 Clinical: Ms. Laurie spent her service learning clinical days in the field with a busy home
health nurse caring for individuals on the south side of Tucson. Ms. Laurie was able to
assist the RN with health teaching. She also saw how social determinants of health, such
as poverty, affect the health status of individuals and families.

 Teamwork and Sharing of Results: The community assessment and the results of the
educational project were shared with public health nurses at the Theresa Lee Public
Health Offices (South Tucson). The presentation included a summary of the community
assessment, identification of strengths and stressors in the community, evidence-based
research supporting the educational project, inclusion of levels of prevention, and tied to
Healthy People goals.

Ms. Laurie is a young woman of integrity and maturity. I would not hesitate to choose her to
provide nursing care to me. She is thoughtful and then, considering the options, takes action. She
is an excellent team member. I highly recommend Ms. Laurie. She will be an asset to the
profession of nursing and will make significant contributions to society.
Sincerely,

Nancy E. McGuckin, MPH, MBA, MSN, RN
