Creating the Environment for Learning Engagements (Comments on: A.1. Materials, A.2. Classroom Organization, A.3. Affective Climate Mr. Aujla comes prepared to each lesson. He has well thought out lesson plans that cater to the needs and strengths of the students. For example, Mr. Aujla uses a variety of strategies to engage students through the use of video, print, electronic, [and tactile materials. Each of Mr. Aujla’s lessons have clearly defined parts to them. He usually begins his lesson by activating students’ prior knowledge by recapping the previous day's lesson or taking up homework. His use of the socratic lesson is effective and fosters student engagement in the content. Mr. Aujla's expectations are clear and students meet these well. Mr, Aujla encourages positive interactions between students, by creating an environment that welcomes suggestions and opinions, Students feel safe to share their responses in class. B. Classroom Discourse (Comments on: B.1.Teacher Talk, B.2. Student Talk Mr. Aujla’s is effective in relating to students. His demeanour is welcoming and exemplifies a genuine concern for students’ /well-being. He is patient, and answers student questions clearly. Students feel comfortable asking him for help when they have problems with content. Through his interactions with students itis evident that the students not only like Mr. Aujla, but respect him as well C. Individual Learning Engagements (Comments on: C.1. Curcular Content, C2. Initiating, C.3 Su staining, C.4. Culminating/Closing, C.5. Assessing) [Over the past several weeks, Mr. Aujla has demonstrated a firm grasp on the curricular content of the lessons he has taught in both SNC2P and SCH3U. The manner in which he delivered the content, as well as the way he anticipated questions from the students showed a significant level of preparation and understanding. As a result of teaching only twice a week, and the disjointed nature of the practicum so far, Mr. Aujla has had limited opportunities to assess the students formally, though he has assessed their understanding in other ways, e.g. the use of kahoot and jeopardy games following a lesson, D. Learning Engagements within Units (This category wil be evaluated in the teacher candidate's fnal practicum report.) Mr. Aujla is very comfortable with the content of his teachable subject — Science. He has also stepped beyond his comfort zone and taught some chemistry lessons. His preparation was very evident in these lessons as well. E. Professionalism (Comments on: E.1. Professional Curiosity, E.2. Professional Conduct) | While remaining personable and approachable, Mr. Aujla is able to maintain a high degree of professionalism both with staff and students alike. His interactions with others in the building has been amicable throughout his placement at T.L. Kennedy. Additionally, he accompanies me on extra duties such as supervisions and on-calls, and is always looking for ways to improve his understanding of the profession both inside the classroom and beyond.
