Art. I The supreme government of the Republic shall be vested in the Supreme
Council, composed of a President, a Vice-President and four Secretaries, for the
conduct of Foreign Relations, of War, of the Interior, and of the Territory.

The Malolos Constitution of 1899


Art. 1 The political association of all Filipinos constitutes a nation, whose state
shall be known as the Philippine Republic.
Art. 2 The Philippine Republic is free and independent.
Art. 3 Sovereignty resides exclusively in the people.
Art. 4 The Government of the Republic is popular, representative, alternative and
responsible, and shall exercise three distinct powers: namely, the legislative, the
executive, and the judicial. Any two or more of these three powers shall never be
united in one person or cooperation, nor the legislative power vested in one
single individual.

1935 Constitution
Sec. 1 The Philippines is a republican state. Sovereignty resides in the people
and all government authority emanates from them.

1943 Constitution
Art. I
Sec. 1 The Philippines is a republican state. The government established by this
Constitution shall be know as the Republic of the Philippines.
Sec. 2 The Republic of the Philippines shall exercise sovereignty over all national
territory as at present defined by law.

1973 Constitution

Sec. 1 The Philippines is a republican state. Sovereignty resides in the people
and all government authority emanates from them.

Freedom Constitution
Art. II, Sec. 1 of the 1973 Constitution was adopted.
