MAX EXPECTED LOAD

The diversity factor depends on the branch circuit application purpose and area.

Generally the diversity factor taken to be for

5

LIGHTING CIRCUIT = 0.6 – 0.8

GENERAL SOCKET = 0.3

SPCEIFIC SOCKET = 0.9 OR 1

DESIGNED LOAD

For each incandescent lamp is taken 40w

7 incandescent lamps x 40 w = 280w

For each fluorescent lamp is taken 36 w

9 fluorescent lamps x 36 w= 324 w

For each general purpose socket outlet is taken

8 Socket outlets, 220v x 5 A = 1.1kw

2 special socket outlet, 220v x 15A = 3.3 kW

FOR LIGHTING CIRCUIT = 2 X 10 A X 220V = 4400 W = 4.4 KW

FOR GENERAL PURPOSE SOCKET = 1 X 16 A X 220V = 3520 W = 3.52 KW

FOR SPCEIFIC PURPOSE SOCKET = 2 X 25 A X 220V =11000 W = 11 KW

TOTAL DESIGNED LOAD = 18.92 KW

MAX EXPECTED LOAD

FOR LIGHTING CIRCUIT = 4.4 KW X 0.6 = 2.64 KW

FOR GENERAL PURPOSE SOCKET = 3.52 KW X 0.3 = 1.056 KW

FOR SPCEIFIC PURPOSE SOCKET = 11 KW X 1 = 11 KW

TOTAL EXPECTED LOAD = 14.696 KW

NOTE:-

Since the total expected load is 14.696 kw which is greater than 8 kw, therefore the
required supply voltage is three phase (380 v).

CONSIDER

In = Maximum normal current.

Ib =current setting for circuit breaker of fuse (design current).

Iz =current carrying capacity of the conductor.

TO DETERMINE THE FEEDER CABLE SIZE AND CHOOSE SWITCHABLE

CIRCUIT BREAKER

Considering of power factor =0.8 for the main feeder cable

Ib = (14.696 x 1000)/ √3 x 380 x 0.8

Ib = 27.91 A

In>Ib. this value may be taken from IEE or EEPCO regulations.

From table 9.1. 27.91 A rated circuit breaker can be selected for protection

In = 32 Amp

There for the maximum MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER size that can be chosen is 32 A
available in the market.

LET TAKE
Average ambient temperature is 250C

General purpose p.v.c Type of insulation.

And from Table A.4 correction factor for250C = 1.03 Ca = 1.03

Therefore the required cable rating is:-

Iz = in/ca x cg

= 32/1.03 = 31.067A

From EBCS-10 Table B.1 reference method 4(enclosed in conduit in thermal

installation including wall) our Iz is 31.067 A, but we took the previous value
available in the table which is 31 A. Therefore 6 mm2 conductor which carries 31 A.

Testing for Voltage drop = (mV/Am) * I * L

From table B.2 voltage drop for 6mm2 conductor size = 6.4 mv/Am
7

maximum current through cables = 27.91A

Voltage drop on cable = 6.4 mv/Am * 27.91 * 10 m =1.786V

where 10m= is long run meter from the pole to the kilowwatt meter

Maximum allowable voltage drop = 2.5% of 380 V = 9.5V.

Since the actual voltage drop is less than from the allowable
maximum voltage drop, selected feeder cable size is 6 mm2.
