Abstract

Students who are studying at the third grade in elementary school were in transition phase, they
were in last position in low class (1, 2, 3) and must be complete in reading and writing skill competent, in
other hand they must ready for reading and writing skill competent in high class (4, 5, 6). The government
role educations in 2006 number 24 about Content Standard Learning in elementary school present that
semester two in third grade, reading focus in intensive reading based of texts and writing focus in simple
writing based on series pictures and writing poems based on picture. Contradictive problems happed in
students of third grade of Balongpanggang II elementary school of Gresik, they had good knowledge when
asked about their experiences in oral language, but they had limited knowledge asked in writhing language.
These students also limited in These problems be teacher background as researcher in this research.
In line with the background of the study, the formulated research problem is ”How the process and
result to improving reading for writing skill through project based learning?” This study was classroom
actions research with he teacher as the researcher. The actions research was implemented for one semester
of 8 meetings. It was a one-cycle actions research, it was planned to be one cycle and this general idea was
not changed throughout the whole semester. In this big cycle, there were some cycles which were reflected
in every meeting. Along the research, the learning procedure was implement with project method to make
class book that contains collect of simple writing of students in third grade based of series pictures. The
learning activities consist of: (1) reading intensive based texts with two evaluations and (2) Simple writing
based of series pictures with two evaluations. Reading intensive was the first step to writing simple
paragraph and writing based of series pictures was the next step to make simple writing more better. The
students-made class book consist of collect of students simple writing was the final product of the students’
project.
The finding shows that through the implementation of project based learning in one cycle can be
improve reading for writing sill students. It is indicated by the increasing number of the students who are
able to achieve good level. The improvement achieve in: (1) learning test evaluations from 6,67 be 7,64, (2)
students activities from 72,65% be 78,13%, (3) teacher activities from 78,18% be 83,60%.
From this study, some conclusions were drawn. 1) learning process reading for writing through
project method third grade students of Balongpanggang II can implemented effective with procedure
include a. planning, b. implementing, c. evaluating, d. accumulate. 2) Students success and there are
improving in score reading and writing ability from 6,67 be 7,64. Based of this conclusions, the researcher
give recommendations: Improving reading for writing skill the third grade students of Balongpanggang
elementary school can implement through project method with procedure a. planning, b. implementing, c.
evaluating, d accumulating. The project based learning can implemented effective, must be good planning
in: lesson plan, students worksheet, and learning test by teacher.
