Merge Healthcare Part Number 0913-220-0002-000
Introduction
Merge Healthcare is pleased to announce the release of version 2.0.1 of eFilm Scan.

eFilm Scan is an application designed to scan conventional medical films using third
party digitizers. It supports all major film digitizers, and also provides TWAIN
support for compliant flatbed scanners. Films may be scanned at various resolutions
as 8, 12, or 16 bit grayscale images (depending on the digitizer) which can then be
window leveled, flipped, rotated, duplicated, or segmented within eFilm Scan. These
images can then be ordered and either sent as DICOM 3.0 studies with relevant
patient information directly to a PACS or burned to CD.

Upgrade Information
eFilm Scan 2.0.1 will update existing eFilm Scan 2.0 installations and retain all
entered information.

To update an existing eFilm Scan 2.0 installation:

 Ensure that eFilm Scan 2.0 is not running
 Double Click on the eFilm Scan 2.0.1 installation file
The update will happen automatically. Modality Worklist Servers, Remote Servers
and scanned images will remain intact.

A new license key will not be needed when updating from eFilm Scan 2.0 to eFilm
Scan 2.0.1.

eFilm Scan 2.0.1 does not have an upgrade path from eFilm Scan version 1.0. A
complete uninstall of any previous versions of eFilm Scan must be completed before
installing eFilm Scan 2.0.

Please note that eFilm Workstation does not need to be removed from the PC where
eFilm Scan 2.0.1 will be installed.

New To eFilm Scan 2.0

 Standalone Scanning Solution – no longer tied to eFilm Workstation
 DICOM Send - eFilm Scan can send directly to any DICOM Storage Device.
 MWL Query – similar to eFilm Scan 1.0.5, you can query a MWL SCU to obtain
patient/study information – fields will be pre-populated with any information
already entered into the patient tree node.
 Remote Device Query – you are able to query a DICOM device for a patient,
select a specific study and use that information to create a new series which can
be added directly to that study. Particularly useful for scanning a report to be a
separate series in a study using a standard flatbed TWAIN compliant scanner.
 Burn to CD/DVD – using the same feature set contained in eFilm 3.0, eFilm
Scan allows you to burn all scanned images for a patient to a CD/DVD
 Bar Code Reader Support – allows you to use a bar code reader to read
barcodes and initiate a search of your MWL source or Remove device. The bar
code scanner can be configured to read barcodes from several criteria such as
patient name, MRN, Accession Number.
 Improved Session management – when you close the application, the state is
preserved for the next time you launch it.
 Display Properties – the new display properties allow you to set a gamma
correction
 OLE Automation – allows third party applications to launch and pass
information to eFilm Scan.

to ** (two asterisks/wildcards) when name for the query (e.g. Smith becomes *Smith*). However, if the patient name is left
left empty in MWL query. empty, it just remains blank (rather than being set to **). This is an inconsistency and
poses a problem with regard to empty queries.

An empty query should return all MWL entries on a given server. However, some
brokers won't respond to an empty query, returning no matches. There needs to be some
sort of non-empty filter criteria. Having the blank patient name set to ** solves this
problem.
