Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks (Procedures & Timelines)

Day 1:
Students enter the classroom and sit at their assigned seats (projected on the board). Students
will be called in groups to retrieve their Chromebooks. They will make sure that they get the
correct number Chromebook and that they place the charger cord back in the right spot.
Students will sign in to EdPuzzle using their google account and watch a video on Chuck Close
and how/why he uses grid method in his paintings:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5FPcRhInfM
EdPuzzle will pause intermittently and ask students questions to make sure they are
understanding what they are watching. Students will only have this class period to finish
watching the video. When the warning alarm goes off, students will place their Chromebooks
back in the assigned spots in the cart and plug in the charger.

Day 2:
Students will enter the classroom and sit in their assigned seats with nothing at their desk. The
teacher will pass out iPads to individual students. The teacher will quickly demonstrate how to
use the iPad and how to take pictures. Students will have 5 minutes to take pictures from the
scavenger hunt: picture of classmate’s face, an art material/medium, and an object from their
backpack. Student’s will then choose their favorite image and turn over their iPads while the
teacher demos how to use the app Painting Grid Maker. The teacher will then use guided
practice to show students step by step how to add a grid to their image (this should only take a
few minutes). The teacher will then ask students to turn over their iPads again while he/she
demos the app Autodesk Sketchbook. Then the teacher will use guided practice to show
students how to add their image, layers, and how to draw. Students must have a grid on their
image, uploaded to Autodesk Sketchbook, AND have it saved to the iPad by the end of class.
The teacher will go around the classroom and put student names on all the iPads and collect
them up.

Day 3:
Students will sit at their assigned seats with nothing at their desk. The teacher will review what
they have learned about Chuck Close and how to use the app Autodesk Sketchbook. The
teacher will pass out sheets with tips and tricks to help them with the app and will also pass out
the iPads to the correct students from the day before. Students will have a studio day to
complete the digital drawings. The teacher will go around and offer assistance and feedback to
individual students. When students are finished with their drawings, they must save the final
image and send it to their google classroom account. Then they will complete an exit slip.
