Classroom Management/Safety Plan

1. My teaching subject area and anticipated grade level:

Freshman Biology

2. Attention to procedures:

a. How are students to signal that they want your attention and help?

Students are to raise their hands quietly and wait to be called upon.

b. How do you call on students during question and discussion sessions?

Instructor will call students by name at the appropriate times to speak.

c. How and when are students to enter and exit the classroom?

Students are to enter the room quietly and place belongings under their seats. During dismissal, students are
to wait for final instructions and for the bell to signal the end of class

d. How are students to obtain the materials for instruction?

Students will raise their hands to inform the instructor that they require materials.

e. How are students to store their personal items?

After retrieving the necessary class materials, students will place their belongings underneath their seats.

f. What are the procedures for students going to the drinking fountain or bathroom?

Students need to receive permission before exiting the classroom and are required to forefit all electronic
devices beforehand.

g. What are the procedures during class interruptions?

The students will be reminded to speak one at a time and listen when others are talking.

h. What are the procedures for tardies or early dismissal?

If a student is tardy they will be required to have a late pass before entering the room. If a student is being
dismissed early they are to pack their belongings and exit as quietly as possible to minimize distraction.

i. What are the procedures for turning in homework?

Students will be required to submit homework upon entering the room. Any homework not submitted within
five minutes of class start time will be considered late and points will be deducted accordingly.

j. What are the safety procedures for laboratory activities? What strategies will be used to remind students of
the procedures?

Students are required to follow safety procedure set by school administration for laboratory activities. Before
beginning each activity, a short review of rules and regulations will be done.

k. What are the expectations for communication between students/students and teacher/students?

Communication will be done through email with students following an appropriate email format with the
instructor and one another. Communication will be on an as needed basis for the students
l. What are the procedures for making transitions during the lesson?

Students are to wait until complete instructions have been given before transitioning during the lesson.

m. How will the teacher deal with inappropriate behavior or procedure infractions?

The instructor will remind all students of the correct behavior for the first infraction and then speak with
students individually if the undesired behavior continues.

n. How will the teacher reward positive behavior?

The instructor will use praise to reward and encourage positive behavior in students.

o. What responsibilities will the students have for maintaining the physical environment?

Students are responsible for maintaining a clean space around them and disposing of their trash
appropriately.

p. What procedures will teacher use to redirect inappropriate behavior?

The teacher will redirect by asking the student to answer questions or read aloud in order to make sure they
remain engaged.

q. What are procedures for making up work when absent from class?

The students will be required to submit make up assignments the following class period and are encouraged
to ask their peers about the material that was covered. They will also be encouraged to ask questions if
assistance is needed.

3. List of student behavior expectations that I will present to my class:

Rule 1: Students are expected to remain seated unless instructed otherwise.

Rule 2: Students are expected to raise their hand silently and wait to be called upon.

Rule 3: Students are expected to enter the classroom fully prepared for learning when the bell rings.

Rule 4: Students are expected to respect and listen to one another.

Rule 5: Students are expected to maintain a clean environment.

4. Explanation of consequences for broken rules:

Students will receive a class reminder of classroom behavior and expectations. If undesired behavior continues a
warning will be given to individual students. Following infractions will result in a detention and if needed a visit to
school administration.

5. How procedures, rules, or consequences may vary (if at all) according to the grade level taught or according to any other

criteria, such as in team teaching:

In a team teaching environment, both teachers will decide the appropriate procedures, rules, and/or consequences that
will best benefit students.
