INTRODUCTION

 Tunnel is underground or underwater passageway, which is sort of enclosed except for

openings for entrance and exit, usually at each end.
 Tunnels may have a great diapason of usage and implementation such as for foot or
vehicular road traffic, for rail traffic, or for a canal.
 Some tunnels are used like aqueducts to supply water for consumption or for
hydroelectric stations etc.
 There are also other type of tunnels which are used for routing systems,
telecommunication cables, electric power, tunnels for military purposes and other
purposes.

INITIATING
Purpose of this project is to make a connection between two distant cities. The solution is
making a tunnel which will provide an optimal traveling from city to city. With analyzing the
bussines needs it is found that some actions should be done in order to satisfy citizens and
users.
According to financial analyzes it is ascertained the advantages and disadvantages of making
tunnel vs making road.

Advandtages of this solutions are:

- Shorter distance between city to city

- Shorter traveling time which has important role for citizens
- Cheaper carfare for citizens which will affect their satisfaction

Other solution was to make a road but because of next things it was considered as bad solution:

- It costs more than constructing the tunnel

- It needs additional works in order to create optimal surface
- In this case many trees should be removed from ground
(Permitions from owners are needed in order to complete it)
- Expensive carfare because of length of road
- Dissatisfaction because of high price
PLANNING

 Planning phase consists of planing site analysis, time of constructing, costs and
resources.
 Site analysis should be done in order to determine current site condition.(e.g. type of
soil and its physical and biological appearance and characteristic.
 This analysis will provide necessary works, in order to complete the project.
 This analysis will also affect the type of works and usage of some equipments.
 The method and choice of equipment and number labor force will affect costs.
 The predicted lenght of the tunnel is 2 km and 8 m wide. The constructing is planned to
be 100 m underground.
 Predicted deadline for finalizing the execution of constructing the tunnel is 4 months
which will take approximately 30 workers.
 The chosen method for drilling the soil is NATM (New Austrian Tunnel Method)
 Advantages of this method:
- Safe and stable
- Uses without explosion
- Low cost
- Less predictions of abreding the soil
- Low environmental impact
 Additional equipment and machines is planned to be used for execution of drilling,
loading and transporting the deposits from site ( e.g. )
 There is always possibility that execution of the project and work could late on proper
schedule (e.g. land cracking, wheather conditions, human impacts).
