YEAR 11 – ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: THE MOTHER OF ALL EVILS

1. Write the English translation of the related text from the hadeeth for the following questions:
1. Is Khamr haram?
“Every intoxicant is khamr, and every khamr is Haram. And whoever drinks khamr in this life and dies while he is addicted to
it will never drink it (meaning the pure wine of Jannah) in the Hereafter”.

2. Is drinking a small amount of intoxicating substance haram?

“If a large amount of substance causes intoxication, then even a small amount in forbidden”.

3. Who are the people that Allah cursed for dealing with khamr?

“Allah cursed wine and whoever drinks, serves, sells, buys, produces, delivers or receives it”.

4. How will Allah punish a person after drinking khamr in this life?

“If anyone drinks any alcoholic drinks, Allah will not accept his prayer for forty days”.

5. What did the Prophet (peace be upon him) call Khamr?

“Avoid drinking wine for it is the mother of all evils”.

2. Compare and contrast between behavior of someone getting drunk and being only really angry.

* A person who is drunk behaves in an unruly and indecent manner. Same is the case with a person who gets really angry.
* A person who is drunk loses his senses and says things for which regrets later. Similarly, a really angry man uses abusive
language and then feels bad when his anger subsides down.
* Both lose their happiness during the duration of anger or drunkenness.

3. “Khamr and crime are friends”. Explain this statement and prove your points.

Khamr induces crime and criminals resort to wine. One supplements the other.

A society, whose people are addicted to khamr, is full of crimes against humanity. All sorts of evils are found among them.
Killing, abusing, rape, molestation and thefts are very common among people who are given to khamr.

Be it in the family or social gatherings or driving while drunk, crimes and accidents are bound to happen because khamr is one
thing that ultimately leads to death and destruction.
