Thickness of supporting member = 8.9 mm
Yield stress of the end plate = 250 N/mm^2
Bolt capacity in Bearing, Bcap = 2.4*(1*250)*(8.9*20)/1000 = 106.8, Say = 106 kN > 34.6kN, Pass
Plate cap. in Bearing, Bmcap = 1*(1*250)*(8.9*20)/1000 = 44.5, Say = 44 kN > 34.6kN, Pass

b.1) Requirement of Strengthening plate of Supporting member


Bearing of Supporting member element is greater than double shear. No Strengthening plate required. Ignore further
Excess force for which bearing is falling short = 0 kN
Thickness of plate required for above force = 0*1000/(250*20) =0 0 mm
Size of Strengthening plate to be same as that of the end plate with fillet weld size as used for end plate on all sides.

CHECK END PLATE FOR BENDING


End plate not subjected to any Tension, Ignore further calculations
Bending moment in plate = 0*3*(100/2-12/2)/1000 = 0 kNm
Thickness of plate required = SQRT(6*0/(0.66*250*200)) = 0 mm < 12mm, End Plt thk OKAY!

CHECK END PLATE FOR TEARING


Area of end plate resisting tearing = (200-3*21.5)*2*12 = 3252 mm^2
Shear capacity of the plate (Cl 6.4.2 of IS 800-1984) = 0.4*250*3252/1000 = 325.2 kN > 103.5kN, PASS

CHECK FOR COMBINED STRESSES IN END PLATE


Max flexural stress in end plate = 0*(H62/2)/(200*12^3/12) = 0 N/mm^2
Max Shear stress in plate = 103.5*1000/3252 = 31.8 N/mm^2
Max bearing stress in plate = 144.2 N/mm^2
Allowable combined stress = 0.9*250 = 225 N/mm^2
Resultant stress = SQRT(0^2+144.2^2+0*144.2+3*31.8^2) = 154.4 N/mm^2 < 225N/mm^2, PASS

CHECK FOR FILLET WELD BEWEEN WEB OF SUPPORTED MEMBER AND END PLATE

Strength reduction factor for weld (0.8 for site weld, else 1) = 1
Weld strength (Cl 7.1.2 of IS 816-1969) = 110 N/mm^2
Weld strength per mm of weld = 1*110*6/SQRT(2)/1000 = 0.467 kN/mm
Length of weld required = 103.5/0.467 = 222 mm
Height of plate required based on weld length = 222/2+2*6 =123, say = 125 mm< 200mm, Okay
