FEATURES OF THE PRINTER

Below is a list of the features of this printer.

● High speed printing

Rapid printing and processing of print data.
A 64-bit RISC microprocessor “PowerPC603e-100MHz” is installed as the CPU, enabling
high-speed processing and printing of complex print data.
For multi-copy printing, the printer transfers only the first copy data and the print job sent to
the printer is stored on the hard disk for repeating the same data printing. Therefore printing
is performed in a high speed.

● Printing up to LEDGER or A3 size

Printable page size range from A5 to A3 or STATEMENT to LEDGER sized pages. LEDGER
or A3 sized drawings and diagrams can be printed at full size.

● High quality printing

The print resolution of 600 dpi meets the requirements of high quality images created by word
processing, DTP, CAD applications. Even in the high-speed print mode with 300 dpi, outlines
of characters, graphics, etc. are smooth-processed for printing.

● Supporting PCL-5e, PCL-XL and PDL as Standard Features

PCL-5e, PCL-XL and PDL are installed as standard features. Therefore, a printer driver
suitable to the print contents can be used for printing.

● Variety of Internal Fonts

45 Western fonts (PCL-5e) are provided inside the printer.

1
● Sort Mode, Stapling (optional)
In this mode, printed documents can be sorted and stapled.

● Double-sided printing (optional)

Print data can be printed on both sides to save paper.

● Supporting Networks (optional)

The printer can be used as a network printer in environments of NetWare, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX
and AppleTalk. It also supports 100BASE-TX, 10BASE-T/2 of Ethernet, as well as Token
Ring.
In Windows 95/98/NT network environments, data can be output to the printer even in a peer-
to-peer network using an exclusive utility without going through a server.

TYPE OF PRINTER DRIVER
To use the printer function of this machine, the printer driver needs to be installed. The role of
the printer driver is to convert the print data output by the application software on the OS into
data format understandable by the printer, then it sends the converted data to the printer.
Furthermore, the attached printer driver has functions to print enlarged/reduced images, print
multiple-page images in one page, etc., to realize a pleasant printing environment.

● You may select a printer driver according to your purposes: PCL-5e, PCL-XL and PDL.

Features of Each Printer Driver

PCL-5e: The PCL-5e driver is recommended for those who perform large volumes of text
printing and regard the print speed as important. The PCL-5e driver realizes faster
printing.
PCL-XL: To make the best use of this printer function with lots of graphic printing required,
please use the PCL-XL driver.
PDL: For those who often use applications such as PageMaker, Illustrator, QuarkXPress,
etc. or in case of requiring compatibility with any other PostScript Level 2 printer,
please use the PDL driver.
● This machine will automatically switch to the appropriate operating mode of the type of printer
driver being used (PCL-5e, PCL-XL, PDL).
The printer driver setting items will change according to the type of the printer driver to be
used. For further details, see “SETTINGS FOR PRINTING-PRINTER DRIVER SETTINGS
(Windows) or (Macintosh)”.
