Key Responsibilities

Performs trouble-shooting and repair services for refrigerated containers. Will handle complex repairs
and servicing Duties included but not limited to monitoring reefer settings, plugging and unplugging and
pre trip inspections; reefer reporting Runs pre-trip inspection on all reefers per bookings and customers'
request

Minimum of HND or its equivalent in Refrigeration/Electrical Engineering and additional training in refrigeration or
air conditioning and similar fields
Extensive experience working with refrigeration units preferably in port/inland container depot or similar industry
Must have demonstrated ability to work on highly complex problems and thoroughly understanding of reefer
container units or similar refrigeration units

Responsibilities

immediately inform his immediate superior if any environmental system does not function properly.
• Ensure that all ventilation, cooling, freezing equipment, ice skating arena equipment (where applicable)
and all air conditioning equipment is kept in full and proper working condition.
• Assist the Chief Refrigeration Engineer in training of the personnel in his division in safety procedures and
assigned duties.
• Delegation and distribution of work for his subordinates as directed by the Chief Refrigeration Engineer.
• Assist the Chief Refrigeration Engineer in the coordination and control of the refrigeration accounts.
• Assist the Chief Refrigeration Engineer in the proper maintenance and condition of the Fire dampers and
Gaylord systems for all air-conditioning and ventilation ducts.
• Assist the Chief Refrigeration Engineer in proper maintenance and repair of all Mini-Bar Units and all Ice
Making Machines, where applicable.
• Additional routines and work as assigned by supervisor.

A Penske Refrigeration Technician will diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor
truck and trailer equipment with the primary focus on all refrigeration unit maintenance equipment
designed for commercial trucks and trailers.
Major Responsibilities:

-Perform all levels of maintenance services, with the primary focus on all refrigeration unit such as
Carrier and/or Thermo King commercial refrigeration equipment designed for commercial trucks and
trailers.

-Be able to test lines, components, and connections using electrical, mechanical and pneumatic test
equipment

-Read complex schematics associated with the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

-Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order

-Maintain work area appearance and safety

-Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working
properly.

-Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner

-Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision
instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and
jacks and hoists.

-Provide additional support regarding preventative maintenance and tractor trailer maintenance as
required by location management

-Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory
specifications.

-Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

This position is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and performing minor repairs to all
refrigerated equipment to ensure peak performance, safety, and longevity of equipment
including Gensets which are generators that are attached to reefer containers or chassis and
Power Packs which are large generators designed to attach to reefer containers to provide
refrigeration wile reefer containers are in storage. To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable

GEOGRAPHIC REGION:

QUALIFICATIONS :
Required

One (1) year experience working with the maintenance and repair of refrigeration units or
possess refrigeration school certification.
Knowledge of electrical and refrigeration methods, techniques, and procedures involved in
maintenance repairs and replacement.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
Posses organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and
fellow employees.
Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.

Preferred

Experience working with the maintenance and repair of gensets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Primary

Monitors the temperature of the reefer containers.


Performs routine maintenance on the refrigeration units and electrical systems, tagging
those that require repair.
Washes and cleans the reefer equipment.
Drives company truck to perform oil changes on Gensets and power packs throughout the
yard.

Secondary

Performs weekly inventory of units.

Operates forklift to mount, dismount, and transport Gensets and power packs to and from
the service area.

Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.


May assist with the coordination of U.S. Customs Agriculture Inspections

Additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Subjection to physical and/or DOT Screening may be required along with other tests as
applicable.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:


Receives direct supervision from the Sr. Manager of Refrigerated Equipment and Foreman;
may assist other Mechanic II employees in the performance of container repairs. Does not
exercise supervision over any position.

CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in the yard; exposed to all possible environmental factors such
as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or
caustic chemicals
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system of forklift and use of power tools.
