Subject: Restoring employee performance level

Due to our recent project with our firm’s biggest clients, our days on the job have become quite
demanding. As a result, employees are not performing to their highest standards.

In an effort to reverse fair performance levels, I suggest we consider the benefits of a corporate
nap room, a topic we lightly visited earlier this past year. Half of the team supported the
introduction of a nap room, while the other half remained open-minded. Considering both the
decline in performance levels and employee exhaustion, I figured it was time to revisit the idea
of incorporating a nap room at Phidias & Associates.

After conducting some research,

Here are some reasons why nap rooms may benefit Phidias & Associates:
 The Wall Street Journal posted an entire column in regards to companies adding “nap
rooms” to help employees recharge during the day. Apparently, by taking a quick nap it
becomes easier to productively get through the day.
 According to expert William A. Anthony, author of The Art of Napping and professor of
rehabilitation counseling at Boston University, most people aren’t sleep deprived, they’re
“nap ready.”
 Shelly Ginethal, human resources director at Macworld magazine says their two-person
nap room was installed back in 1986 and usually has a waiting line.
 Bruce Yarde, president of Yarde Metals in Bristol, Connecticut claims, “A quick little
nap can rejuvenate you.” He fights employee stress with a 25-person nap room.

Based on this research, it can be seen that the idea and/or having a nap room in the workplace is
desirable to both existing and incoming employees.

The cost to incorporate a nap room at Phidias & Associates is low because we have the space
required. One of our three employee lunch areas could easily be converted into a nap room;
specifically the lunch room in Section E as that room has the least amount of windows. It is also
the room which is furthest from the main road, quieter, and more attractive as a potential nap
room. The only cost involved would be the introduction of beds and/or cots.

We could consider having all employees vote through a survey to determine consensus. If you
are interested in establishing nap rooms to restore to our employee performance levels, please
call me at ext. 9880 and we can discuss this matter further.
