So, get started right away!

Part III – Summary Document as described below DUE 02.26.18

(including Worksheet #2)

The Solution Outline will consist of the following items:

Title Page (All participant names, Case #, Case Title, Date – see example below)
Problem Formulation Worksheet #1 (original)
Solver Answer Report and Sensitivity Analysis (submit only the corrected version)
Worksheet #2 (typed is preferred but handwritten is okay if neat)
Peer Evaluation – one page with documentation of all participants

Grading Rubric for Case Problems

Part I LP Formulation Worksheet – 20 points max
On-time Submission (5)
Correct problem formulation (15)
Part II Excel Solver Set-up and solution – 30 points max
On-time submission (5)
Well-documented spreadsheet (5)
Correct problem formulation and solution (20)
Part III Summary Document – 50 points max
On-time submission (10)

Each team member will not necessarily receive the same grade for this project. Your grade will be
adjusted based upon peer reviews submitted at the end of the project. Individual effort and contribution will be
taken into account. Please COPY ALL team members in any emails to me.

A well-documented Excel spreadsheet includes:

1. Case # and Problem Name in cell A1

2. All team members names (anywhere)
3. Well-defined decision variables in upper right corner
4. Defined constraints and coefficients, along with units
5. Explained objective function, with units

See example spreadsheet in Files of Canvas: Ch 2 – A Simple Minimization Problem

LP Formulation Worksheet #1 – Case Problem 4.___ Approved__________

Team Members:

This original worksheet is submitted in your Summary Documentation. You may type a new one if this is incorrect or lost. But, if not
submitted, you will lose 5 pts.

1. Define your decision variables. How many decision variables do you have?

2. What is your objective (in words)?

What is your objective function (mathematical expression)?

3. Define your constraints. How many constraints do you have? ________

Constraint # In Words Mathematical Expression

Example Available time for processing, hours 3X1 + 4X2 + 3X3 ≤ 40
Peer Evaluations – Chapter 4 Mini-Case Problems

Please turn this in as the last page of your Summary Document. If, as a participant, you do not agree with the other teammates’
opinions, please email me privately at lcarney@fit.edu

Example: LP Formulation Worksheet #1 – Case Problem 2.2 – M & D Chemicals

Approved_____________

The original worksheet is submitted in your Summary

1. Define your decision variables. How many decision variables do you have? 2

Let A = the # of gallons of Product A

B = the # of gallons of Product B

2. What is your objective (in words)?

To minimize the total product cost of Products A and B while meeting all of the managerial constraints

What is your objective function (mathematical expression)?

MIN 2 A + 3 B where the cost per gallon of Product A is $2/gal and Product B is $3/gal

3. Define your constraints. How many constraints do you have? 4

Constraint # In Words and Units Mathematical Expression

1 Demand for Product A, in gallons 1A ≥ 125

2 Total product requirement for A and B, in gallons 1 A + 1 B ≥ 350

3 Processing time allotted, in hours 2 A + 1 B ≤ 600

4 Non-negativity constraint A, B ≥ 0

Worksheet #2 – Case Problem ______
This worksheet is submitted in your Summary Document. Please re-format it into two pages so that you can answer all questions
completely. I prefer typed versus hand-written but the latter is permitted if you are neat. Delete the instructions in red..

1. What is your optimal solution? (e.g., list the decision variables and the amounts)

A = 250 We will produce 250 gallons of Product A

B = 100 We will produce 100 gallons of Product B

2. What is the value of your objective function at the optimal solution?

Our total production cost is $800.

3. Etc. Etc. Show me what you know!
