Use of GeoGebra in Geometric Construction

Instructional Episode 1

Construction of Isosceles Triangle

Time: 45 Min.

Objective

To construct isosceles triangle with subsequent steps in terms of following

information:

a. Base 4 cm and remaining sides 5 cm

b. Base 5 cm and base angles 60o.

Activities

1. In maiden phase, students will be engaged to draw circles having different

radius using compass and straightedge as an opening exercise, and then an

example of isosceles triangle will be presented by using Projector and

Computer such as

2. In second phase, students will be encouraged to recall the information related

to the presented content addressing following key statements.

 What are the vertices of the Triangle ABC?

 Distance between two points

 Distance alone line and distance around a circular arc

 Angle between two segments and base angles.

And GeoGebra will be used in order to demystify the contents and make

information vivid.
Use of GeoGebra in Geometric Construction

3. In third phase, students will perform at least one actionable activity such as

general construction of isosceles triangle without formal steps, or recalling

subsequent steps.

4. In fourth phase, then formal construction will be generated using GeoGebra,

and corresponding steps will be visualized.

5. In last but not least phase, drag test will be used in order to manipulate and

reflect on the construction and again, these phases will be revisited for

constructing base 5 cm and base angles 60o.

Assessment

Construct an isosceles triangle with base 3.5 cm and remaining sides 7 cm

with subsequent steps.

Construct an isosceles triangle with base 3 cm and base angles 60o and recall

orally the construction steps.

Home Assignment

What happens if all sides of an isosceles triangle are equal to each other?

Remark

It should be noted that GeoGebra will be used each phases if the students feel

awkward.

Instructional Episode 2

Construction of Triangle

Time: 45 Min.

Objectives

To construct triangle when perimeter of the triangle and it’s any two angles

are given.

To list out the steps of construction together with formal geometric

construction with a variety of tools and methods.

Preparation

Students will be divided into five groups

Activities

1. In maiden phase, students will be engaged to construct any triangle ABC and

bisectors of angle A, angle B, and angle C, and perpendicular bisector to any

side of triangle ABC, and each group of students will be assigned different

problems but proportional by using projector.

Such as: construct a triangle ABC in which a+b+c = 10cm , angle B =60oand

angle C = 75o.

2. In second phase, students in each group will be encouraged to recall allied

information regarding knows and need to knows aspects of problems such as

Knows Need to Knows

Angle C =75 How to construct a triangle?

Angle B =60o and the like

And, GeoGebra will be used to make linkage between knows and need to

knows aspects.

3. In third phase, each of the students will perform at least one actionable activity

such as construction of triangle ABC using given information by the way of

Protector, Compass, and Straightedge without steps will present this task in

groups.

4. In fourth phase, formal construction of triangle ABC will be constructed by

the way of GeoGebra such as:

5. In last but not least phase, drag test will be used in order to focus on

construction and these phases will be revisited if necessary. And finally steps

of construction will be noted down with apt construction.

Assessment

Construct a triangle ABC in which a+b+c = 6 cm and angle B = 60oand angle

C= 60o together its construction steps.

Home Assignment

Construct a triangle ABC, in which a = 6 cm, b+c = 10 cm and angle B = 45o

and explain steps in detail.
