SANITATION
CAMPAIGN IN
SUNYANI ZONGO
COMMUNITY
JPIC Team of Accra District
has launched Sanitation
Campaign for from November
till the end of the first quarter
of 2018. The team aimed to
carry the said campaign to
communities and schools in
Ghana. On the 25 November
2017, in collaboration with
some health workers from
Sunyani Municipal Hospital the
team organized sanitation
programme in Zongo
community in Sunyani. During
their normal community
durbar, the team sought to use
the platform to raise awareness
of the dangers of throwing

surroundings. The residents of
the community were advised to
desist from throwing away
water sachets and polythene
shopping bags in their
environment. They were also
persuaded to consider to use
shopping bags that they can
reuse several times instead of
those they use once and throw
way. They were encouraged to
pick plastic waste for some
money for companies that
recycle them.

Some human persons have no
respect and compassion for
animals. These persons are not
qualified to keep pets in their
homes. If you don’t care
whether your pets eat or sleep
in decent places, pets are not

25: 7; Ex. 12: 12; Ex. 23: 4-5)
The spread of Hepatitis B
virus in Ghana is life
threatening and it is
necessary that awareness of
this disease be created since
many Ghanaians are still not
aware of it. The mode of
transmission of this disease
presents the fear that many
can contract it easily. It is
against this background that
the JPIC Team of SVD
Accra District in
collaboration with some
health workers (volunteers)
organized a health awareness
programme to sensitize some
residents of Ablekuma in the
Ga South District in Accra
about the disease.
Ms Ivy Appiah one of the
volunteers, gave a brief talk
about the disease and
advised the group to be
cautious about it. She also
advised them to encourage
other people to go for
screening and be immunized
against the disease. In all
some 53 persons were given

free screening and 49
persons were vaccinated
against Hepatitis B virus at a
highly subsidized fee.

When I blow a fuse
At the fumes they
suffocate me with-
disaster, catastrophe,
Yet they disgust my
lessons.

Rather they increase my
venom.
Pecuniary superiority
they seek.
Thus they deplete and
ransack my treasuries;
Flora and fauna even cry
for survival.
The voracity of their crave
is scaring,
And I am scared and I am
scared.
They know not where
they go.
The blind and the mute
go before them;
Their foolery is distilled
from egoism.
The breed of the greedy,
And they plunge into the
pool of fools
To take a dirty bath
In the confusion of
misunderstanding.
But I am scared and I am
scared.
But I give up not on my
hope.
I hope the perfect
harmony from the Divine
in due time
Will be restored…
And humankind will
breathe

serenity.

EVANGELISATION
/SANITATION
CAMPAIGN WALK
On the 9 December 2017
Accra District JPIC team
held a joint programme
with Friends of SVD of Ss
Peter and Paul Catholic
Church (an SVD run parish
of Accra Archdiocese) who
organized Health Walk
with Evangelisation. JPIC
team joined the Walk to
embark on sanitation
campaign with the theme:
CARE FOR THE
ENVIRONMENT: YOUR
RESPOSIBILITY. A good
number of catholic faithful
from Ss Peter and Paul
and St. Margaret Mary
Parish, Dansoman actively
participated in the
programme.
The Walk started from Ss
Peter and Paul Catholic
Church compound, with a
brass band music
accompanying the Walk
and the participants who
dressed in sport outfits,
holding placards with
messages; some of which
read: A Tidy Home Is a
Happy Home; Be Clean!
Be Eco-friendly; Don’t
throw waste into gutters;
Get a good toilet in your
house, etc. The float
passed through some

streets and lanes of Weija
township. About 1500
flyers with invitation to
embrace the Good news
of salvation were
distributed to people in
the area. Some rosaries
were also given to few
interested individuals
whom the participants
encountered during the
walk.
The Walk finally returned
to the church compound
where it started and
ended with aerobics and
refreshment.

FIGHT AGAINST
WRONG DISPOSAL
OF PLASTIC WASTE
On 1st December, 2017
JPIC, Accra District Team
launched a sanitation
campaign and
orchestrated some
strategy to sensitize
children of some basic
schools against wrong
disposal of plastic waste in
the environment. The
team planned to visit
some twenty schools and
extend the campaign
message to them from
January till March 2018.
On the 6th of December
2017, Mr. Mawuli Kley, a
member of JPIC Accra
District Team was with the
school children of Ss Peter
and Paul Catholic School
at New Aplaku, Accra and
briefly gave them a
message regarding the
need to take care of the
environment and to desist
from throwing around
plastic waste like water
sachets, plastic bottles
and polythene bags.

to always make sure that
