REPORT ON THE PROGRESSION OF THE ENGLISH SPEECH CONTEST

The English Speech Contest is an annual competition organized by the International Youth
Fellowship for Francophone secondary and University students within the national territory to test their
level of The English Language proficiency through comprehensive written and oral exercises. Lycee
de Nsam Efoulan is in its maiden participation this year.

Two weeks have gone by since representatives from the International Youth Fellowship Cameroon
branch visited our school with an invitation letter, inviting our school to take part in the English Speech
contest for the academic year 2016-2017. The Principal and the Vice principal in charge of the English
department unanimously gave their consents to this plausible initiative to promote bilingualism. The
vice principal assigned M. LYSONGO; coordinator of the English club to handle this activity and see
into it that qualify students are selected to represent the school. So far, the competition is structured
into four main parts before the final stage. Fourteen students took part in the preselection written
phase and all successfully made it to the second phase. In the second phase organized on the 7th of
March, only one candidate failed to make it through to the next stage.

The representative of the International Youth Fellowship single-handedly set the questions and
mark them. We were only served the results in sealed envelopes. Stage three was purely oral with
students being assigned five essay topics to study and carry out tutorials in any topic of their choice
in front of a jury. However, in this phase, the schools concerned are to select the best students from
the rest. In our case, out of the thirteen students who sat for the oral speech test conducted in the
Library yesterday the 13th March 2017, presided over my Mr LYSONGO, Mr KEMTA (HOD) and
myself (Mme BAYIHA) from 11:10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., eleven students were retained out of thirteen to
represent the school in the national Speech Contest schedule to take place on the 1st of April 2017 at
the campus of the Catholic University Mvog-mbi. Attached herein are the results for phase I, phase II
and Phase III as organized by the International Youth Fellowship.
