Refection 8

1. Reflect on reading your work aloud (answer one of these questions):

1. What was your experience of reading aloud your essay to your
peers?
i. My experience of reading my essay aloud was pretty good because
it allowed me to realize what did make much sense or if the
grammar was off.
2. What does it feel like to hear your own writing voice?
i. It feels pretty weird because I do not normally read my stuff out
loud when I have done my other essays. To me it sorta felt like my
essay had a different message when I read it out loud because I did
not have my conscious to backup my ideas.
3. How does it help you in the writing process?
i. It helps you in the writing process because it allows to edit your
own work because when you read it aloud you catch things that you
would not normally catch.
4. What is the value of hearing your own writing voice when reading
your work aloud?
i. The value of hearing your own writing voice is that it allows you to
understand what you trying to say but how it ended up on your
paper. It shows you the miss connection between the words and
your thoughts.
5. What did you learn about this essay by reading it aloud to your
group?
i. I learned that I had a lot of sentences that were missing some
words which made my sentences not have the proper impact that
they should have had.
2. Reflect on listening to others voices: How does listening to other people's
writing voices help you to think about your own writing, or what does it teach
you about the writing process in general?
1. It helps me with my writing because it allows me to reflect on my essay
what I should change to make mine stronger. It also teaches me that
everyone has mistakes and it is ok for your essay not to be perfect the first
time around.
3. Reflect on your peer responses: Read over the annotations and comments
that your group made on your essay. Then answer the following questions:
1. Do people seem to understand your thesis? Why or why not?
i. People do seem to understand my thesis because it answers the
focus question and is pretty straightforward in my opinion.
2. Were people able to identify your naysayer perspective and
concession? Explain.
i. Yes they were able to identify my naysayer and concession in my
essay. I dedicated a whole paragraph for the naysayer and
concession which made it stand out more than my peers had in
there essays.
3. What are your strengths, according to the comments? Explain.
i. The strengths of my essay of my essay according to my comments
would be my thesis. Based on the comments I got they said that my
introduction was pretty clear of summarizing the problem at hand.
4. What are the specific parts of the essay that need the most work,
according to the comments? Explain and be sure to NAME the
paragraphs, and or specific elements of the essay you need to
work on (for example: developing your claims, providing stronger
support, integrating your quotations, etc.)
i. The parts of my essay that need the most work are my conclusion,
thesis , and my naysayer/ Concession paragraph. I need to do a
conclusion that ties all my ideas back up leaving the reader
optimistic that things can changer for these children. For my
naysayer paragraph I need to find better evidence or possibly just
create a whole new paragraph for the evidence that I have now. My
thesis needs to be reworded to so that it is less confusing to the
reader.
5. Editing: What specific editing errors do you need to pay close
attention to? Consider not just what your peer responders
mentioned in today's workshop, but also, consider what your errors
were in Essay 3.
i. The errors I need to play close attention to are the tenses, spelling
and punctuation in my essays. I need to have better sentence
fluency as well.
4. Create a Revision Plan:
1. Final Draft of the Essay 4 is due on Monday, at 11:59pm: Write a
bullet "to-do" list of what you need to do to ensure you revise and
finish the essay, and save enough time to edit for: MLA in-text
citation, a Works Cited page, spelling and punctuation, and other
grammatical surface-level improvements.
i. Finish the paragraphs that are not done
ii. Create work cited
iii. Make sure that I have everything cited properly
iv. Proofread
v. Have my classmates edit it.
vi. Look over it one last time before submitting it.
