1. Introduction
M-Temp T is a temperature measuring instrument for molten metal baths and it
operates with immersion temperature probes from different manufacturers and with
thermocouples. The incoming temperature signal is detected, followed; the plateau is
determined by settable parameters and shown on the display by means of quickly
following spot measuring.

The electronic elements used are state of the art and thus the measuring instrument
complies with the high demands of nowadays quality controls in process engineering.
2. Technical data
Measurand: temperature [°C]
Measuring principle: graph following, plateau interpretation and saving of
the measuring data
Compensation of the proportional to the temperature in the range of
terminal temperature: -20 °C to +60 °C
Accuracy: < 0.12% of the measured value
Resolution: 1°C
Measuring range: type S (Pt 10) 400 °C - 1750 °C
type R (Pt 13) 400 °C - 1750 °C
type B (Pt 30/6) 400 °C - 1820 °C, separate unit
type K (NiCrNi) 200 °C - 1350 °C, separate unit
Measuring input: 6-pin lockable connector, for the entry of the
contact potential

After connecting the M-Temp T, the unit performs several internal initialisations
and a self-test. During this time all lamps and display segments are shining for
about 2 seconds. When all tests are passed without errors the last value
measured is shown on the display.
Error messages
The following errors may appear at the self-test:
The calibration and interpretation data are registered on two places of the
EEPROM. The errors ERR0 and PLT appear mostly after re-connecting the
M-Temp T. ERR1 is a considerable error. In this case the unit has to be sent to
MINKON.
The error PLT can be eliminated usually by re-writing the parameter data.
The operating states "GREEN, YELLOW and RED" occur always at normal error-
free measurements. Each operating state is indicated by a LED on the front side.
After connecting the M-Temp T or after every measurement the unit goes
automatically to the basic operating state. In this mode all LEDs are out. The last
measured value is shown on the display.
Only in this basic operating state it is possible to perform a possibly necessary
change of the parameters by using the serial interface (must only be carried out by
instructed personnel with a special communication cable at the serial interface and
a special program for parameters changing).
The unit is ready for operation and the measuring input is checked permanently
for low impedance (measurement lance connected). Thus the push-on of a
measuring probe is detected (low impedance thermocouple).
A mean value for the temperature is made up in the internal measuring computer
and it is used for interpretation or for the plateau search. The interpretation is done
every 100ms, i.e. with an interpretation frequency of 10 Hz.
The following parameters are used in the operating mode “YELLOW”:
P–4 address of the unit as identification (e.g. for data acquisition with PC,
when several units are used).
