Problem
I get the following errors when starting RSLinx Classic software:

Failed to show RSWho.

Need register file: C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\RSObserv.exe

Failed to show RSWho.

Can't access file: C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\Harmony.rsh

Also an error 1053 occurs when attempting to start the Harmony service from the Windows Control Panel or RSLinx Classic Software installs on multiple drives.

When RSLogix 5000 Communications-->Who Active the message Failed to show RSWho appears although you are able to launch and see the RSWho window in the
RSLinx Classic software.

Solution
First, make sure RSLinx Classic software is compatible with your Operating System. Refer to Product Compatibility and Download Center
(http://compatibility.rockwellautomation.com/Pages/MultiProductSelector.aspx?crumb=111&toggleState=!O0!,!O5!,!O5_0!#) to check compatibility.

If so the do the following:

1. Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Services

2. Double click the Harmony service

Note: If there is no Harmony service, run the repair on RSLinx Classic application from the Windows Control Panel. If there is Harmony service, it will most likely be
disabled. Double-click and set it to Manual. Then click Apply --> OK --> Close. Verify if this has solved the issue if not continue.

3. In the General tab, verify the Path to executable:

32-bit OS:
C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\RSOBSERV.EXE

64-bit OS:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\RSOBSERV.EXE

Check the directory listed above to make sure that RSOBSERV.EXE is located at that file location. It is also possible that RSOBSERV.EXE might be in another directory if
RSLinx Classic software was installed to a non-default location. If RSOBSERV.EXE is not in this directory, search your local drive for this executable.

4. Go to Start --> Run

5. Type regedit and click OK
6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Harmony

7. As a precaution, back up the existing registry information by right-clicking the Harmony folder and selecting Export.
8. Click on the Harmony folder. On the right-hand side ImagePath should have:

32-bit OS:
"C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\RSOBSERV.EXE"

64-bit OS:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSCommon\RSOBSERV.EXE"

9. If this path is not correct, right-click on it and select Modify. Verify if this has solved the issue if not continue.
10. Deleting the Harmony files can be attempted to resolve the issue as well. See 769010 - RSLinx Classic: Clearing cache by deleting Harmony files
(//rockwellautomation.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/769010).

There is known issue with recent Microsoft security updates that affects many Rockwell Software. If you are still having the issue with RSLinx Classic refer to 1071234 -
