How to Pray the Rosary

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our
Lord. Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He
ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall
come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
Act of Contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned
against You whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to
avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior, Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.

Joyful Mysteries (Mondays and Saturdays)

1. The Annunciation
Reflection:

Vocation and disposition to God

Meditation: The “YES” of Mary

That little Nazorean girl could not imagine that God had chosen her as mother of our
savior: For this reason, she was amazed by the announcement of the angel that came to tell
her what her vocation was to be, and what God expected of her. “Yes” said Mary, a yes that
changed history, because in that moment the son of God was conceived in her womb from that
moment redemption commenced.

Prayer:
Show us mother, how to always answer “YES” to God. Amen.

2. The Visitation
Reflection:

Faith and Humility. Be grateful to God that he has taken notice of us

Meditation: Mary is always willing to serve.

When Mary finds out that her cousin Elizabeth needs her (Because she is at an older age and
expecting a son), she does not think of it one second, she goes on her way to help her. Mary
does not worry of the distance and what she would face because love would overcome any
difficulties she would encounter. She hastens to where she is needed.

Prayer:

Oh Mother of mine, may I learn to always be ready and willing to serve others. Amen.

3. The Nativity
Reflection:

The lesson of love and complete giving of oneself.

Oh Hidden God, I love you with devotion

Meditation: When Mary gave birth to our savior

Men close their doors to the son of God, who is going to be born in a manger, in extreme
poverty: Mary does not complain, she knows she carries in her womb the savior of the world,
and accepts with joy and humility the will of God. On that cold night she warms herself with the
love from Joseph and all the animals.

Prayer:

Mother of our savior; tell our Lord that I too, want him to be born in my heart. Amen.

4. The Presentation
Reflection:

Live purity in body and soul

“I plead you to offer your body as a living host pleasing to God”

Meditation: On the purity of Mary

Mary is Immaculate; she is without sin, because God filled her with grace: She, who is a
virgin mother, goes to the temple for her purification: she did not mind summiting herself to the
laws of men. In humility, she wants to show us the value of purity.

Prayer:

Oh Mother most pure, we want to live with you as a model, leaving behind the empty promises
of the world. Amen.

5. THE FINDING OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE

Reflection:

Accomplish the will of God

Let God’s holy will be accomplished, let it be blessed and praised.
Amen.

Meditation: How Mary is able to accept the plans of God

Oh, what suffering do Mary and Joseph have when they could not find the son of God? They,
like us at times lose sight of God: Unlike them we lose sight because we search for our will and
want to do as we please.

Prayer:
Mary, let us learn from you and find the Lord, let us accept His plans for us and leave ours
behind. Amen.

Luminous Mysteries (Thursdays)

1. The Baptism of the Lord

Reflection:

The Divine affiliation.

We are children of God in Christ through baptism

Meditation: Jesus is baptized

The Lord allows himself to be baptized by John in the Jordan River as a voice from heaven is
heard letting them know who he is; the savior, the long-awaited Messiah, the son of the most
high. God the father and God the Holy Spirit are alongside the one whom Israel has waited for.
We are called to be children in the Son, to receive the baptism that makes us children of God,
and heir to the heavens.

Prayer:

Lord, let us be grateful and value this Sacrament. Amen.

2. The Wedding at Cana

Reflection:

Mary mediatrix of all graces

Meditation: Do what he asks

Jesus and his disciples were invited to a wedding where Mary was: Being a good mother
Mary takes notice when the wine has finished and does not want the newlyweds to be
embarrassed. She asks her son Jesus to start His mission by changing water into wine.

Prayer:

Oh Mother Mary, let us always run to your aid because we know you will lead us to God. Amen.

3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom

Reflection:

The Apostolate

Meditation: The calling to extend the kingdom of God through words and
works

“I have come to proclaim the good news:” With the start of his new public life the one who is
the redeemer will show us with works and words the message of salvation to the whole world.
Jesus, who makes all things new, has come to offer us his word. His message is more than
following rules and regulations; it’s to live his life in ours and to follow him. Amen.

4. The Transfiguration of Jesus

Reflection:

Contemplative eagerness

Meditation: I want to see your face, Lord, do not hide it from me.

We meditate as Our Lord climbs Mt. Tabor with his closet disciples, Peter, James, and
John: He transfigured before them. The Law and the Prophets want to praise the presence of
Christ in the World. Showing the glory of all one God who wanted to become man to bring
humanity to God.

Prayer:
Lord, through this prayer may I live this intimacy of love in which you invite me. Amen.

5. The Institution of the Eucharist

Reflection:

The Lord is the food of the soul.

Meditation: Receiving the Lord with purity, humility, and devotion

We meditate at the Last Supper the moment of His farewell: The Lord who has given all that
is His, now wants to give Himself fully and offer Himself as a Holocaust; He offers Himself as
nourishment. This is the prelude to the prologue of His sacrifice on the cross. In the Holy Mass,
He renews His sacrifice at Calvary, the Sacred Banquet. This is my body, this is my blood and
the Lord decided to return to us as the bread of life.

Prayer:
We pray to receive you, Lord, as you deserve, with our souls clean, without the shadow of sin.
So we may always receive your forgiveness in the sacrament of confession. Amen.
Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesdays and Fridays)

1. The Agony in the Garden

Reflection:

Pray.

Perseverance despite the tests, internal and external

We meditate the prayers of The Lord: Jesus, wants to prepare the moment of his total
sacrifice to save us all, and He does this praying, elevating His mind and heart to the Father. It
is a Conversion full of abandonment, trust, and knowingly putting everything in His hands.

Prayer:
My lady and mother, I ask you during the difficult circumstances, may I rely on God and
abandon myself in Him. Amen.

2. The Scourging at the Pillar

Reflection:

Spirit of sacrifice

"I supply in my flesh what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ"

We meditate this sacrifice Jesus did for us: Jesus scourged without compensation but he
never complained. We too find ourselves in one way or another with difficulties and
contradictions that affect us inside and out. With what attitude can we take this? Being
rebellious? Rebuking God?

Prayer:
Mother, teach us how to love unconditionally and grow our faith towards the Lord in the times of
conflict and discomforts. Amen.

3. The Crowning with Thorns

Reflection:
The Ecce homo

The King of heavens and earth, without human glory. And the response of
men: "crucify him"
We contemplate the reign of love: Those men who didn’t realize that they had the Son of God
in front of them, they continued humanity our Lord. The King of Heaven allows this for love.
Where is the real reign? In the human triumph? In the praises?

Prayer:
Virgin Mary, our mother, help us recognize the greatness of the reign and not overwhelm others,
but provide them with love and not ask for anything in exchange. Amen.

4. Jesus Carrying the Cross on His Way to Calvary

Reflection:
The inseparable cross

Carry it gladly, then "joy and peace"

We meditate on the cross that God sends us: Jesus carries his cross, a cross that is not His,
because it is the cross of our silence, of our ingratitude, and of our sins. And he takes it for us
so ours are lighter. We encounter the cross and reject it, sometimes with arrogance, without
noticing that Jesus sanctified it because he wants our sanctification.

Prayer:
Sorrowful Mary, may we never overlook anything that makes us similar to your son however
painful it may be. Amen.

5. The Crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection:
Do God's will until the end.

To win the last battle, until death. Surrender to the Lord.

We meditate with gratitude the redemption: On Mount Calvary, Jesus is crucified like a
criminal. This is the price of our redemption. He opens his arms and stretches them to humanity,
to show us how great the love of God truly is.

Prayer:
Mother of solitude, who contemplated her son on the cross, teach us to be grateful and to
respond to the generosity of the love that God has shown us. Amen.

Glorious Mysteries (Wednesdays and Sundays)

1. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
Reflection:

The joy of Christ that overcomes death.

The loyalty. The apostles are loyal; the enemy of perseverance is the
discouragement to abandon ourselves
We meditate the triumph of Jesus on the first day of the week: When the women wanted to
perform the last rites to the Lord; to anoint His body. They find the unexpected: the empty tomb.
Christ conquered death and thus redemption was complete.

Prayer:
We rejoice you, our Mother, and we ask you who knew being at the door of the cross, that we
maintain a strong hope in the victory of Christ. Amen

2. The Ascension of Jesus

Reflection:

Christ who opens us to the hope of heaven, and encourages his apostles to
spread the Kingdom of God.

We meditate on the call of the apostolate: Jesus was with His disciples for forty days, to give
them the joy of his company and his last instructions. But, then comes the time to say goodbye,
this is the moment to act, to spread the message of Christ to all the nations of the World.

Prayer:
Virgin Mary, whom we know is filled with God, we ask with urgency to ignite from the fire of your
love. All those we encounter in our life. Amen

3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit

Reflection:

Joy of being on the safe path within the Church because it is illuminated by
the Holy Spirit.

We meditate on the birth of the church: The apostles stayed in Jerusalem awaiting the
descent of the Holy Spirit and Mary among them, teaches them to preserver in prayer. This is
how the church was born, to make God present among us and throughout history

Prayer:
Virgin Mary, you are mother of the Church, teach us not to look at her as some far off
institutions rather the house of believers that God wanted to bring to the world, His message of
salvation. Amen.

4. The Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven

Reflection:
Mary, who is our hope, shows us an anticipation of the glorious resurrection.
We meditate on the hope of heaven: You, Mary were created by God as the most excellent of
all the creatures, and know the Lord didn’t want you, His Holy Mother you know the corruption of
death. This is why he opened up the gates of Heaven. This makes our hope firmer, because
you show us the anticipation of what would be our glorious resurrection.

Prayer:
Virgin Mary, that we have in our hearts those souls of heaven, that together with you, we may
contemplate the face of God. Amen.

5. The Coronation
Reflection:
We are in the crown of the Virgin. God has marked us with the seal of our
vocation.

We meditate the intercession of Mary: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit have come to
encounter Mary to crown her because she is the queen of Heaven and Earth! Before you, Mary,
the angels and the spirit rejoice in praise, because you are daughter of God the Father, Mother
of God the Son, Spouse of God the Holy Spirit, temple and tabernacle of the Holy Trinity.

Prayer:
Because you are the supplicant omnipotence, we have recourse to you Mary, knowing that you
will take our supplications, Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.
