Welcome to Roanoke and the regional meeting of VAASL. We hope you will enjoy a
day of informative group sessions, breakout sessions with great take-aways, friendly
networking, and plenty of good food.

Izzy’s Fire: Humanity in the "Izzy's Fire: Finding Humanity in the Holocaust" & "The Little Conference Room

The Reveal: Virginia Readers’ Two members of the Virginia Readers’ Choice selection Grand Ballroom B
Choice 2018-19 committee will give a brief book talk for each of the titles
chosen for the 2018/2019 list. The purpose of the VRC
Tamara Teaff and Jane Fields program will be explained along with information about
how to participate in the program. The books on the
Elementary 2018/2019 selection list will be reviewed and discussed.
Participants will receive an annotated bibliography of the

Be Smart Using T.R.A.I.L.S. Are you in search of assessments to use for your SMART Grand Ballroom C
goals that will produce lots of data? In this session
Cynthia Jeffress participants will learn how to use Tools for Real Time
Assessment Skills (T.R.A.I.L.S.) to gather data for their
All SMART goals. Participants will leave with a free data driven
tool that covers the Virginia research Standards of Learning
and will make those goals SMART.
Makerspaces: Getting Started Come get some practical tips and ideas on getting a Grand Ballroom D
on a Budget makerspace started with very little budget. Time, storage,
organization, ideas, etc. We have had makerspaces for
Librarians from Giles County several years so we have learned a few things we want to
share with others. We all teach in combined schools--Pre-K-
All through 7th grade...so it would be great for upper
elementary and middle school teachers, and possibly high
school teachers as well.
Building Positive Teacher- This session will explore how to set up positive collaborative Conference Room
Librarian Collaboration teacher-librarian teams, focusing on inquiry projects that 1/2
combine information literacy skills and Virginia Standards of
Brooksie Kramer Learning. Presenters will share best practices, lesson ideas,
and websites/Chrome extensions that enhance the
