1. Using distance modulus and error propagation equation, determine the distance to a star
located at RA = 10h 08m 22.3s, Dec = +11° 58' 02" with visual and absolute magnitude
+1.36 (± 0.1 mag), -0.52 ± 0.1 mag respectively! What’s the name (traditional and
bayern designation) of this well-known star?
2. Using hydrostatic equilibrium of stellar equation, determine the central pressure in the
Sun. Average density of the star is 1410 kgm-3 , the radius is approx. 700,000 km.
3. A pulsar, located 1000 pc far from Earth and 10,000 times more luminousthan our Sun,
emits radiation only from its two opposite poles,creating an homogeneous emission
beam shaped as double cone withopening angle α = 4◦. Assuming the angle between
the rotation axisand the emission axis is 30◦, and assuming a random orientation of
thepulsar beams in relation to an observer on Earth, what is the probabilityof detecting
the pulses? In case we can see it, what is the apparentbolometric magnitude of the
pulsar?
4. How long it takes for universe to double its size? Assume constant Hubble-constant
H0=72 km/s/MPc.

7. Prove that 2013 𝑥 20124 + 1 is a composite number.

X = 2013 × 20124 + 1
= (2012 + 1) × 20124 + 1
= (a + 1) × a4 + 1 where a = 2012
= a5 + a4 + 1 (2 marks)
= a5 + a4 + a3 − a3 + 1
= − 2011 (6 marks))
