and
(WASHINGTON)— In April, the Fortas Chamber Music Concerts presents Isabel Leonard
in Recital: A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein on April 15, 2018, and Steven Isserlis and
Richard Egarr on April 23, 2018, both in the Terrace Theater. Tickets for the performances
are $59 and $45, respectively.
As part of Renée Fleming VOICES series, Isabel Leonard pays homage to Leonard
Bernstein in her April 15 performance with 18 songs from musicals such as West Side
Story, Peter Pan, and On the Town. This all-Bernstein concert featuring Leonard, a
multiple Grammy Award®–winning vocalist, precedes her turn as Rosina in Washington
National Opera’s production of The Barber of Seville.
Isabel Leonard has performed on stages throughout the world and with conductors such
as Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and others. She also serves on
the Board of Trustees at Carnegie Hall and has previously received the Richard Tucker
Award.
On April 23, British cellist Steven Isserlis and harpsichordist Richard Egarr perform
together in the Kennedy Center’s recently renovated Terrace Theater. This intimate,
versatile space sets the mood for the Baroque program complete with hand-crafted,
curved wood paneling invoking Isserlis’s authentic gut-string cello.
Isserlis is acclaimed worldwide for his profound musicianship and technical mastery,
enjoying a unique and distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator,
author, and broadcaster. He is the recipient of multiple awards and is one of only two living
cellists featured in the Gramophone Hall of Fame. Isserlis and Egarr will come together
again on April 23 after their successful 2015 album Bach, Handel & Scarlatti: Gamba
Sonatas.
