Surfware, Inc.
1) TrueMill
a. The TrueMill slicer has been reworked to return a better quality toolpath along with
faster toolpath calculation times.
b. Pocket ordering is now more intelligent to reduce overall rapid moves.
c. TrueMill 3D now is a single tool cutting strategy that functions in the same slicing
manner as Z-Rough.
d. The ability to turn off the “open pocket” cutting for 3 axis. This forces TrueMill to
only calculate and cut the internal pocket areas of a model.

e. The ability has been added to turn on depth first cutting. This forces TrueMill to cut
each region to the full depth before moving onto the next area. This reduces cycle
times.
f. The ability to enter a separate spindle speed to control the spindle speed for the
helical plunge versus the actual TrueMill path.

g. Pilot hole has been enabled for TrueMill paths.

3) Lathe Modifications
a. Custom Holder support for lathe

e. SCMOD verification files retain orientation between setup
f. Lathe supports Cview turning capability.
g. Lathe verification has been enhanced to better support lathe and millturn operations.
h. Auto check has been enabled for lathe tapping.
i. Back face ID retract angle has been addressed.
j. Automatic material boundary trimming to end of part.
4) 4-Axis Enhancements
a. Single unified selection for the set axis command for 4 axis
i. Active Cview gnome for visual reference to the axis of rotation for the current part.
ii. Set axis setting is retained and automatically sets itself upon regeneration.

5) 5-Axis Enhancements
a. 5 Axis Roughing
i. Multi Passes
1. The additional function to create multiple passes on any 4-5 axis toolpath.

1. The additional function to turn any 4-5 axis toolpath into a 4-5 axis

1. The additional ability to convert a 4-5 axis toolpath into a 4-5 axis morph
pocket cutting strategy.

iv. Depth Cuts

1. The ability to take a 4-5 axis toolpath and create a roughing path offset along
the tool axis.

b. Multi – Select
i. The multi-select option is now enabled upon going into 4-5 axis operations.
c. Surface Extension
i. The selected surface groups to be cut can be auto extended to avoid having
to model surfaces to extend the 4-5 axis cuts.

d. Tool Cutting Direction Enhancement

i. All four of the available options are enabled.
1. Clockwise
2. Counterclockwise
3. Climb
4. Conventional
ii. Addition of the Enforce Cutting Direction parameter for the Clockwise and
Counterclockwise direction options.

e. User intuitive graphics in the user interface tabs

i. For each of the options in the tabs for 4-5 axis graphics have been added to
denote what the selected options pertains to and the choices that can
be made.

f. Additional controls to handle the links between passes on 4-5 axis roughing toolpaths.
i. Additional panel in the LEAD/LINKS tab allows control of these new features.

6) Operations Manager
a. Check Box Functionality
i. Allows the user to select the operations that the post can either process or skip.

7) Transparent Work-Plane
a. Allows visual representation of the active Cview in model space.
i. Right mouse click controls
1. Hide
2. Size
3. Color
4. Transparency
A transparent plane will be shown to give the user a reference

in space as to the orientation of the active C-View

8) Multiple Tool Rest Roughing

a. The ability to batch process multiple tools for a single rest roughing operation.
9) 3-Axis Z-Finish
a. The 3x Z Finish has been updated to the newest toolkit functionality as the HSM operations.
i. The classic mode has also been retained.

10) SURFCAM Backup Utility

a. Backup all SURFCAM customized data files
b. Simplify the update process
c. Easy to use
Simplify the process of updating between versions of SURFCAM or operating systems

11) Additional Enhancements for V5

a. Silhouette Boundaries
i. Silhouette boundaries have been modified to use the surface tolerance value to
generate the boundary.
b. Write Permissions to the SURFCAM folder.
i. When Write permissions are not able to be given to the SURFCAM directory, the
following changes can be made to the SURFCAM.INI file
1. To change the location where the SCBAK file is created, add the
following to the SURFCAM.INI file.

TmpStoragePath=c:\tmp
2. To change the location for the interim HSM 3x files when the permission
to the SURFCAM folder cannot be given add the following to the
SURFCAM.INI file.
[DefaultPath]

c. Spost Configuration Tool
i. Updated to V6.3
1. The user interface to the Spost config tool has been updated.
2. The Spost engine has been updated to the new SURFCAM security.
