Most of the educational

institutions are still using
Microsoft Fonts. I am not
sure about other countries.
But, in Tamilnadu (An Indian
state), Times New Roman
and Arial fonts are being
mostly used by almost all
sorts of documentation
works, projects, and
assignments in colleges and
schools. Not only the
educational institutions,
some small organizations,
offices, and shops are still
using MS Windows Fonts.

Just in case, you are in a

situation where you need to
use Microsoft fonts in your TO SEARCH, TYPE AND HIT ENTER

Ubuntu Linux desktop, here Custom Search

is how to do it.

Install MS Fonts in
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
desktop
Install MS TrueType Fonts as
shown below:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts

After installing the fonts, we

need to update the font
cache using command:

sudo fc-cache -f -v OSTechNix

Dual boot with
Linux and Windows

If you have dual boot system

with Linux and Windows
operating system, you can
easily install the MS fonts
from Windows C drive. All
you have to do is mount the
Windows partition
(C:/Windows).

I assume you have mounted

the C:/Windows partition at
/Windowsdrive   directory in
linux.

Now, link the fonts location

to your Linux system’s fonts
folder as shown below.

ln -s /Windowsdrive/Windows/Fonts /u

After linking the fonts folder,

regenerate the fontconfig
cache using command:

fc-cache

Alternatively, copy all

Windows fonts to /usr/share
/fonts directory and install
the fonts using the following
commands:

mkdir /usr/share/fonts/WindowsFonts

cp /Windowsdrive/Windows/Fonts/* /us

chmod 755 /usr/share/fonts/WindowsFo

Finally, regenerate the

fontconfig cache using
command:

fc-cache

Test Windows font

Open LibreOffice or GIMP
after installing MS Fonts.
Now, you will see there the
Microsoft coretype fonts.

That’s it. Hope this guide

useful. Again, I warn you
usage of MS fonts in other
operating system is
prohibited. Please read the
Microsoft License agreement

Tutorial is excellent
but I’m not at all
technical and stuck.
Using ubuntu 16.04
LTS. ran ‘sudo apt-get
install ttf-
mscorefonts-installer’.
When license
agreement appeared,
I scrolled to its end,
clicked on . But it’s is
not clickable. Nothing
happens when clicked
upon. Can’t get to
window that accepts
license agreement to
continue installing.
Any tip would be
appreciated as I sure
would like these
fonts.

center and in
the process
the Microsoft
acceptance
window for
these fonts
appeared. I
accepted, and
continued the
above process.
I now have
these fonts.
