1-1 WS S23 G19: EQD / Inspection and Test 1-1
This document applies to the Texas Oil Tools (TOT) hydraulic quick disconnect
Models JK46, JK44, JK43, JK36 and JQ36 and the Coflexip 4-in and 3-in quick
WS Operations Integrity manager\Global Vessel Group\3313701\1.0\Release Date:20-Oct-2016\EDMS UID: 1664781695\Produced: 21-Oct-2016 03:20:00
For the remainder of this guideline, hydraulic quick disconnects are called
emergency quick disconnects (EQDs)
Contact Global Vessel Group via InTouch for approved service centers for OEM
recertification and repairs.
• Each EQD shall have a unique serial number that will remain with the
equipment until it is removed from service. The general serial number format
is indicated below for the two suppliers.
• Each EQD must be inspected and pressure tested as per this guideline, at
least, once every twelve (12) months unless otherwise required on a more
frequent basis.
• The results of the inspection and pressure test must be documented. The
documentation (either a paper copy or electronic copy) must be kept on file
at the operating location for one year or until the next inspection.

• Without grinding them, check to see if the hammer lugs on the wing nut can
be dressed and still remain within acceptable limits. See Figure 1-8, part A.
• For all TOT models, disassemble the lower body and clean all surfaces for
inspection.
WS Operations Integrity manager\Global Vessel Group\3313701\1.0\Release Date:20-Oct-2016\EDMS UID: 1664781695\Produced: 21-Oct-2016 03:20:00
• For all TOT models, inspect the lower body and bottom sub (for JK36 and
JQ36 Model) sealing surfaces for gouges or imperfections. If any are present
the part should be repaired and then an MPI done on the repaired area. If
the component cannot be repaired, then replace the component. Figure 1-2
shows the lower body sealing surface.

1-4 WS S23 G19: EQD / Inspection and Test 1-4
• Inspect locking dogs bearing area for damage as shown in Figure 1-3.
WS Operations Integrity manager\Global Vessel Group\3313701\1.0\Release Date:20-Oct-2016\EDMS UID: 1664781695\Produced: 21-Oct-2016 03:20:00
• For TOT models JK44, JK43, JK36 and JQ36, clean and inspect the cylinder
ring for exterior surface damage and any gouges at the locking-dog contact
areas.
• For TOT model JK46, clean and inspect the piston sleeve for exterior surface
damage and any gouges at the locking dogs contact area. Figure 1-4 shows
the sleeve and piston sleeve assembly.
• For TOT models, clean and inspect the seal ring for surface damage to the
exterior and interior surfaces.

1-5 WS S23 G19: EQD / Inspection and Test 1-5
• Inspect the sleeve(s) for any interior surface damage or exterior damage
preventing smooth operation.
• For the fail-safe close TOT Model JK46, inspect the springs. Confirm that
they are all the same height when free standing. The OEM springs are 5-in
[12.7 cm] long.
• Inspect the hydraulic hoses and piping for any kinks or outer-skin damage
that exposes the internal armor.
WS Operations Integrity manager\Global Vessel Group\3313701\1.0\Release Date:20-Oct-2016\EDMS UID: 1664781695\Produced: 21-Oct-2016 03:20:00
• Remove, clean, and inspect the hydraulic connections and threaded holes
for any damage.
• Inspect any Weco 1502 hub for cracks in the root of the thread or any other
damages. If there are any concerns, perform an MPI of the union.
• Without grinding them, check to see if the hammer lugs on the wing nut
can be dressed and still remain within acceptable limits. Refer to Figure
1-8, part A.
• Inspect the modified Grayloc® F40 or approved-vendor’s API 16BX hub for
gouges.

Each TOT model has an inspection document from TOT. Perform the inspection
per the inspection documents in Table 1-2 which are available at Stimulation
Vessel, Hydraulic Quick Disconnect, Vendor Manuals, InTouch Content ID#

3. Clearly identify that the wing is made by FMC or SPM. If not and no exemption
approved by WS HQ is in place, remove from service and destroy the wing.
4. If the wing is 2-in and is marked “TEST” instead of “CWP,” remove the wing
and destroy it.
5. Grind the hammer lugs on the wing to match Figure 1-8 (p. 1-9), part B, and
measure L. If any lug matches Figure 1-8, part C, or has L equal to or less
than Lm (see Table 1-3 (p. 1-9)), remove the wing and destroy it.
6. Screw gauge #1 onto the wing until it is hand-tight.
7. Backing out gauge #1 while pulling on it, count the number of turns until it
releases from the wing. If gauge #1 turns more than 1 turn before releasing,
remove the wing and destroy it.
8. Slide gauge #2 into the wing. If it enters the wing completely, remove the
wing and destroy it.
9. Dismantle the wing completely.
10. If the wing is an FR design, ensure that the segments and male hub are also
the FR design. Do not use gauges #5 or 6 to inspect FR parts.
11. Using gauge #5, check in three places around the circumference of the male
hub that the hook does not fit. If the hook does fit with the gauge level with
the hub on 2 out of 3 places, remove the hub from service and destroy it.
12. Slide each of the segments through gauge #5 to ensure that there is no
visible clearance on surfaces A or B. If there is any clearance, destroy the
segment.

Figure 1-9: Grayloc® port bushing with O-rings and back-up rings.
4. Inspect the clamping surface and port-bushing seal pocket on both mating
hubs for any gouges or deep scratches.
5. Replace the port bushing O-rings and back-up rings and apply grease.
6. Apply lubrication to the hub-clamp contact area to reduce friction during
assembly.
7. Lubricate the bolts, spherical faces of the nuts, and clamp ears. See Figure
1-10.
8. Ensure hubs are properly aligned so that the port bushing engages the hub
sealing surfaces. For misaligned systems, use external loads to the mating
piping (i.e., jacks, come-a-longs, etc.) to align the hubs.
9. While tightening, the clamp should be jarred (i.e., a hit to the back of the
clamp with a soft hammer) and then bolts retightened. This procedure should
be repeated until bolt torque does not change after jarring (torque, jar, torque,
jar, etc.). The torque for 6-in Grayloc® F size clamp 1.125-in -8 UN-2 x
9.375-in long is 205 ft-lbs (279 N-m).

connectors for hubs BX-154 and BX-155 (Clamp No. 6 & 8) and covers both
inspect and preparation for assembly.

7. Verify that the sleeve is completely closed and that the indicator tag (where
applicable) shows that the sleeve is closed.
8. Fill the EQD with water and pressure test it to +/- 2.5% of its rated working
pressure for 1 hour.
9. If there are no leaks and the pressure drops off no more than 2.5% of its
rated working pressure within 1 hour, the EQD has passed the inspection.

10. If the pressure decreases from the initial test pressure and stabilizes, the
pressure can be increased one time to reach the rated working pressure.
11. If there are visible leaks or the pressure drops off more than 2.5% of its rated
working pressure within 1 hour, release the pressure and return the EQD for
repair and retesting.
