Student Learning Environment Information

Dear UJ Student,

Welcome to the Postgraduate School of Engineering Management (PSEM). As a registered student

of the PSEM, you are required to study the following information and comply with the requirements
stipulated therein to progress from a registered to an active student. The information below details
your learning environment within the PSEM academic system; and stipulates the communication
mechanisms you are required to follow whilst registered in the School. Important information
regarding learner guides, timetables, prescribed books and the uLink Blackboard system is provided.

1. Step 1: Registration

Please ensure you register as soon as possible from 8 January 2018. The registration link is available
via UJ website.

2. ULINK REGISTRATION

uLink is the student portal which provide access to Blackboard which is the online platform for all
registered modules. Please ensure that you register as a student on the uLink student portal as soon
as you are registered with UJ. The following steps provides detail access to the system:

1. Log onto the uLink Sign In page: https://ulink.uj.ac.za/index.html

2. Click on: Create Password (Students)

3. Follow and complete the steps in the Welcome Portal for Students

Once you are registered on uLink, you can access the Blackboard system.

3. BLACKBOARD SYSTEM

3.1 ACCESS FOR MODULE LEARNING GUIDES

All the PSEM modules’ information is loaded on the Blackboard system. You can access the learning
guides of the modules once you are registered Blackboard.

To access the learning guide, click on the relevant module and open the guide. Ensure that you read
the learner guide thoroughly for detailed information on the module content and relevant academic
arrangements.

3.2 PROBLEMS WITH ULINK / BLACKBOARD ACCESS

3.3 BLACKBOARD EMAIL

Please note that, since Blackboard is the primary communication tool employed by the PSEM, it is
vital that you ensure that the email you have registered on the system is correct.

The PSEM communicates all its academic and module information via Blackboard, and assumes that
you receive the necessary correspondence as it is distributed.

4. TIMETABLES

Please refer to the attached document for the timetables for the modules offered by the PSEM.

5. PRESCRIBED TEXTBOOKS

Prescribed textbooks for the PSEM modules can be accessed at the following UJ link:
