7. Transport of timber logs


In timber industry, rivers are important means of transport of timber logs because the save
costs. On top of it, the ability of the wooden logs to float on rivers and brought downstream by
river water to the factory at the river mouth is one of the factors this method is used.
Explain, though the timber logs are heavy, they can still float on water.

10. Kursk Submarine Tragedy

On September 2000, the largest and most sophisticated submarine of Russia, Kursk, which was powered
by nuclear power was involved in an accident while submerging in Barents Sea. The accident caused a
serious damage to the structure of Kursk and 118sailors lost their lives.

In one of the trousers pocket of a sailor, a note was found and it was written:”Kursk sank because of
torpedo”.

Suggests and innovation to the structure of the submarine to prevent the similar tragedy from
happening again.
