Method and materials.

Ecocolumn wasn’t a closed system. There were abiotic and biotic factor
in ecocolumn. Biotic factor were the plant for the land zone and the algae for
aquatic zone. Abiotic factor are the soil, fertilizer, wick strip, tape, pH strip
and scissors. The hypothesis was fertilizer in the soil, then will increase the
pH in water of the ecocolumn. The independent variable was the fertilizer
and dependent variable was the pH. The ecocolumn doesn’t have the control
variable. The purpose was to know the effect of the fertilizer in pH measure.

The hypothesis was if fertilizer in the soil, then would increase the pH in
water of the ecocolumn. At the beginning of preparation for equipment,
bottles, scissors, wicks, glue, plants, decomposers and tapes. First, selected a
two-liter bottle for the experiment. Second, removed a label from the bottle
by hair dryer and cut bottle below the shoulder of the bottle in one
centimeter. Third, poked a hole in one centimeter at the bottle cap and put
the bottle cap on the top of the bottle. After that, poked the two- centimeter
in the aquatic zone but it needs to be above the water when we put water in
it. Then, put a long wick in the part that we cut at the beginning by using
glue. Next, filled water in the aquatic zone or that below part of the bottle.
Next, added soil into land part to make sure that the soil was fit enough to
plant but do not put too much soil. After that, while the land part was
prepared add plant into the land zone. Not only adding plant but also adding
decomposer (Fungi). Finally, put each part together by using tape and
start doing an experiment. On day 1, created the ecocolumn based on follow
the procedure. On day 2, observed the ecocolum and add soil with the plant
and leave it on the lab. In the experiment, measured the pH in the water
before put the fertilizer. Then, put the fertilizer in day 3 (December
14,2016). Then observed and wrote the result in the observation sheet. Next,
day 4 (Wednesday, December 16), observed the plant and measured the pH
level and recorded. And day 5(Wednesday, January 6), removed the plant
and added new plant. Then put the fertilizer in the soil and measure the pH
level. Then recorded. On day 6 (Monday, January 7), observed the plant and
measured pH then recorded. The last day (Wednesday, January 20),
observed the ecocolumn and measured the pH level then recorded.
