Content of sessions
Dr Felicity de Zulueta will be presenting the origins and effects of psychological trauma
(or Post traumatic Stress Disorder) on children and adults from an attachment
perspective. She will introduce the audience to recent evidence relating to
the transmission of vulnerability to PTSD down the generations and its implications in
terms of future generations particularly in relation to violence. In the second part of her

talk, she will outline ways in which the cycle of trauma and violence can be broken, both
through the appropriate treatment of affected individuals and also through prevention at
the level of the family and society.

Shorty biography of keynote speaker

Dr Felicity de Zulueta, BSc, MA(Cantab), MBChB, FRCPsych, FRCP.

Dr de Zulueta is an Emeritus Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the South


London and Maudsley NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Traumatic Studies at
Kings College, London. She developed and headed the Traumatic Stress Service in the
Maudsley Hospital which specialises in the treatment of people suffering from Complex
Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD) including borderline personality disorder and
dissociative disorders.

Dr de Zulueta has published papers on the subject of Bilingualism and PTSD, BPD and
dissociative disorders from an attachment perspective and is author of a book called
"From Pain to Violence; the traumatic roots of destructiveness" used on many courses
(2nd updated edition published by John Wiley and Sons, March 2006 and translated into
Italian). She is currently working as a freelance consultant psychotherapist with training
in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, systemic family therapy, group analysis, EMDR and
Lifespan Integration.

Dr de Zulueta gives lectures and training workshops on the above subjects in the UK and
abroad and is currently carrying out clinical research on the traumatic attachment and its
implications for assessment and treatment.
