1. What is ATSTORM V.02

ATSTORM V.02 is a thunderstorm warning system Class I (according to EN 50536) that measures
electric field informing about all phases of a thunderstorm, thus allowing a time margin of several
tens of minutes for taking the pre-established preventive actions.

2. Applied standards
With the aim of complying with the essential requirements stated in the Electric Security and
Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives, the following standards have been applied:

• Directive 2004/108/CE (Electromagnetic Compatibility):

Standard: EN 61326-1:2006 - Electrical equipment for measurement, control and
laboratory use - EMC requirements - Part 1: General requirements
• Directive 2006/95/CE (Low voltage- Electric Security):
Standard: EN 61010-1:2001 - Safety requirements for electrical equipment for
measurement, control, and laboratory use - Part 1: General requirements

These standards have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and therefore
they presume the conformity with the essential requirements given in the directive.
Besides, the equipment has been designed considering the standard:

• EN 50536:2011 -Protection against lightning - Thunderstorm warning systems.

4. Installation of the sensor

The sensor should be placed at the highest feasible location, within the protection area of a
lightning air terminal and as far as possible from any element that could affect the electric field
(air terminals, antennas, elevators, etc).
Once the location is selected, the sensor should be installed with the following procedure:

1. Prepare the fixings for the anchorages 2. Fix the anchorages and the mast
with the distances of the figure
300
600

5
ATSTORM V.02 · User Manual

3. Pass the cable sensor through the mast. The circular connector has to come out at the upper
part of the mast. Place the sensor connecting the cable plug to the circular base of the sensor,
matching the connector tab with the slot.

4. Fix the sensor to the mast using the M8 screws, passing them through the mast holes.

Upon installing the sensor and starting the system for the first time, it is required to wait at least 2
hours for the signal to stabilize.

6
5. Installation of the console
ATSTORM V.02 operation console will be located inside a building, in an accessible place for its
control and configuration. It should be installed close to a 110~250V, 50~60 Hz power outlet.

Connection of the cable:

The provided 25-meter cable communicates the sensor with the console, being also the power
supply for the sensor. For all this, 4 wires of the cable and the shield are employed.

1. Strip 7mm off the pink, grey, white and yellow

wires and insert the wires coming from the
console in the orange connector as shown
below (from left to right). 7

3. Connect the screen DC power source to the power supply and to the jack connector of the
screen.

Connection of the dry-contact relays

The console is provided with 4 dry-contact relays able to switch signals up to 250V, 2A. These
relays can be associated to different events and alarms using the alarm configuration screen
(see 7.1).

4. Connect the dry-contact relays for configuring

the alarms.

6. Installation of the modem

The accessory AT-511: 3G Modem module provides the equipment with access to the internet
in locations where a wired connection is not available. Besides, it allows sending SMS to 4
recipients indicating the existing alarm level.
The modem can be configured using the console touchscreen. The parameters can be changed
in the third screen of the option “System configuration”.

1. Insert a SIM card that allows internet connection and sending SMS.

10
2. Connect the USB cable: insert the mini-USB plug into the modem and the other side into
the USB port at the console’s front panel. Connect the power supply into the RJ11 connector.

3.Connect the antenna.

How to retrieve on line data
Data is accesible on line. To retrieve it proceed as follows:
• Insert either the name of the equipment or its IP address in a PC explorer connected to
the same network:
\\ATStorm<DeviceID> or \\192.168.0.70
• The computer will require user and password:
User: Atstorm
Password: PIN number configured in the equipment
• ATSTORM shares two folders:
Data (*.csv files):stored data
Data (*.log files):stored important events

Data file example

The system creates a daily .csv file, named with the date (yyyymmdd.csv). The number of
different data per day depends on the time of storage for each alert level, which is selected in
the ALERT LEVELS menu.
