TASK 4: REFLECTIVE WRITING ON MACRO TEACHING (20%)

To fulfill the task requirements of this semester’s course which is Planning of Teaching and
Learning (PRKA 3012), I have conducted a macro teaching based on the lesson plan that I
have prepared in Task 2. The experience that I got during the process of conducting my macro
teaching was priceless. These knowledge and experiences would help me to improve my
teaching skills in the future and prepare me with the necessary exposure to teaching lifestyle.
Not only that, the macro teaching session was also proven to be beneficial in enhancing my
presentation skills.

In my opinion, during the completion of my macro teaching, I found out that my voice
projections were very loud and clear. It has also been confirmed by my peers that my voice
was very good. In addition to that, they were also commented that how I managed to utilize
the high and low in my tone to its fullest as it was stated too in the observations form given by
my peers. In my discovery, I found out that voice projection is the utmost importance and
quality that a teacher should have and it is second only to content knowledge. For instance,
without a good voice projection, your pupils might have a difficulty in following your instructions
in class. Thus, disrupting the flow of your teaching and learning session due to the inability to
keep up with teacher’s commands. Next, based on the forms given to my peers, I also found
out that my management skills were superb. My timing and sequencing skills were really
something that I can be proud of. In the forms given, I was told that I was able to time my
teaching and executed it perfectly. I used linkers to connect points from one to another and
because of that, my peers have stated that the flow of my teaching and learning process went
smoothly and clearly.

However, behind every successful person lies weaknesses that he had overcome. In
my case, one of the observers stated that I did not fully achieved my learning objectives. This
means that, at the end of my macro teaching, my achievement of learning objectives was just
satisfactory. I shall take the critics with open-hand and will further improve my lesson planning
in the future. Furthermore, based on the forms given, it was also stated that, I have somehow
neglected the sensitivity of learners’ environment. This can mean that I might have used
certain terms that were not tolerable in the Malaysian context. For example, I might have joked
about a certain race and how funny their traditional attires are.
Moving on, there are certain aspects that I can still improve in to order to become a
better teacher. I can create various teaching aids that would actually help me to get my pupils’
attention. For instance, I can use animations to actually help me in my teaching as animated
objects are known for their ability to attract attentions. Next, I also believe that a conducive
classroom will help me to perform better in teaching. For example, a classroom that is free
from disruptions such as noise pollution, and a well ventilation will promote a healthy and
positive learning.

Several challenges aroused during the process of my macro teaching. In instance, a

long pause and silent happened few times during the process of my macro teaching. This was
due to my own weakness, I was not focus enough during the process and ended up pausing
in the middle of my teaching session. Students’ physical participation was also one of the
challenges that I had. I was unable to fully utilize students’ physical participation to its fullest.
