HLTH 3800: Alternative task – basketball

Inclusion:
What alternative task(s) could you introduce to the students to provide them with an
element of choice?

 Give the students the choice to work with any 5 students, in their team the students
can choose what position for the task. i.e. 2 baseline players, 2 forward players and 1
point guard.
 To give the students an element of choice they may have 2 different targets an
normal level height or a ring that is lower, if they get it in the normal its 2 points and
if they get it in the lower ring team will receive 1 point.
 The student after the play the student with the ball can either choice to shot, pass or
drive, there isn’t a set task they need to do, it’s the students choice.
Self-check:
What aspect of the task will you select for students to evaluate their performance?

 Students can check their individual performance and provide feedback to

themselves on what they have done correct and what needs improvement.
 Revivers can check if they square up to the basket as they look for the option to do
either shot, drive or pass to a teammate. Each student will be able to self-check
themselves if they as square with the target can they do this
 Once they shot they can self-check results, so meaning if they shot was to strong or
not enough they will be able to see what they need to do, and once they get it in
they have a perform that they can see what they done correct for future tasks.
 Students can correct their stance when about to shot and pass, can see if their foot
position is correct, so the students can correct their skill prior to doing it and on the
end result, if it goes in or hits the target.

Individual Practice:
how would you present the 4 sequences of the right-side motion offence?
 Give students the choice to work with any 5 students, they can choose to be in any 5
positions for the task- reminding them they need 2 baseline players, 2 forwards and
1 guard.
 Students are to individually focus on the quality of their passes to their team mates-
focusing specifically on the 3 Cs- Control, confidence, concentrate.
 Sequence 1. A1 waits for A2 to give the signal (communicate: Go) when to pass the
ball. After the ball is released A1 and A3 change positions and A4 and A5 change
position- A1 oversees the first sequence
 Sequence 2. A2 waits for A5 to give the signal when to pass the ball. After the ball is
released A3 and A2 change positions and A1 and A4 change positions- A5 oversees
the second sequence
 Sequence 3. A5 waits for A3 to give the signal to pass the ball. After the ball is
released A5 and A3 change positions and A2 and A4 change positions- A3 oversees
the third sequence
 Sequence 4. A3 waits for A4 to give the signal when to pass the ball. After the ball is
released A1 an A3 change positions ad A2 and A5 change positions- A4 oversees the
fourth sequence
Reciprocal:
what aspects of the task would you select for an individual or group to observe and provide
feedback.
Groups of 6, 5 students on the court while 1 student teacher observes the activity. – rotate
clockwise after 2 minutes- the guard becomes the student teacher and the student teacher
becomes the A3 forward.
The student teacher is to observe and give appropriate feedback on the following task;
 Does the player receiving the ball always square up to the basket and look for
his/her individual options in the first instance?
 How effectively are the screens being used? For example, receiver faking defender
off balance first; receiver cutting close to the screen on the correct side; screen
rolling with the receiver and so forming an extra offensive threat?
 Is the player receiving the ball able to spot when a team mate has got free and pass
the ball quickly and effectively to create a scoring opportunity?

 If the person behind the person in front gets a goal first, the first person must stand
