HLTH3800 Alternative Task Basketball

Supporting and Sustaining Attack

Reciprocal
 Before starting talk to students about what is expected of ball receiver
o Square up to basket
o Looking around for options
o Shoot/drive/pass
 From here demonstrate the drill – walk through first and then once they have
the hang of it add some pace
o Do not discuss the role of the receiver again at this point
 Now ask another student to come in and stand on baseline
 This student is the observer and will be watching the A5 person only
 Ask them to repeat what we are looking for from our receivers of the ball
(KTP’s)
 Before they get started talk to the observer as well as addressing the class
talking about specific and non-harmful feedback
 Let the drill run through once and then tell the observer that they would give
feedback (don’t do during demo in case embarrasses another student)
 After feedback they would repeat the process 3 times to see if any
improvement
 From there show rotation of observer in A5 to observer, observer to A1 and
everyone else shuffle down a place
 Now ask rest of class to do the same drill

Learner Diversity
 To start with always make students pass
 To make it harder allow students to make the decision to either pass or drive
(leading in to inclusion)
Basketball Street Game – BUMP

Aim: To work on free throw shots under pressure

Equipment:
 2x basketballs
 1x basketball hoop (with free throw line)
 +4 students

Rules
1. Students form a line behind the free throw line
2. The first 2 students in the line have a ball each
3. The game starts once the first person in the line shoots for the hoop
4. If the first player in the line gets the ball in first shot the ball goes to the person
next in line (without the ball)
5. If the first person in line doesn’t get it in first shot it then becomes ‘live’ for the
next person (with ball)
6. If the second person in line gets the ball in before the first person, then the
first person is out and helps collect fly away balls for their class mates
7. Students take as many shots as they need (from the position they catch it at)
before they get it in or the person behind them beats them to it
8. If the first person successfully gets their shot in they go to the back of the line
and game continues
9. Eventually one person left standing will be the winner

Playing Area
 Half of basketball court
