Present Simple
We use the present simple to talk about things in general. We are not thinking about this moment. We use it to say that
something happens all the time, repeatedly, or that it is a general truth. It is not important that the action occurs at the time
we are speaking.

Examples:
Nurses look after patients in hospitals.
I usually go away at weekends.
The earth goes round the sun.

This tense has a characteristic. We add and S, ES or IES to the main verb only in the case of the third person singular:
HE – SHE – IT . For the rest the verb remains the same conjugation.

Examples:
She works in a company. I play football.
He drives a car. They go to school.

To ask questions we use an auxiliary that helps us to complete the meaning of the sentence. We always put this auxiliary at
the beginning of the sentence. The auxiliary is: DO or DOES. We use DO for all the subjects except for the third person
singular for we use DOES.
2
Affirmative: Interrogative:
I + work Do +I + work?
You + work Do + You + work?
He + works Does + He + work?
She + works Does + She + work?
It + works Does + It + work?
We + work Do + We + work?
You + work Do + You + work?
They + work Do + They + work?

To form the negative we have the same auxiliary DO + NOT for the first and second person of the singular and all the
plurals; and DOES + NOT only for the third person of the singular.

NOTE: In both cases NEG and INT the verb from the third person singular becomes infinitive again.
