INTRODUCTION

Radhika Ghai Aggarwal is an Internet entrepreneur and India’s first


woman to enter the Unicorn Club.[1] She is the co-founder of online
marketplace ShopClues established in 2011.[2] Currently, she serves as
the Chief Business Officer of the company.

Early life[edit]
Aggarwal was born to an Army family. Her father was in the Indian Army
while her mother was a dietician. Her entrepreneurial venture started when
her father decided to start his own health club in 1992, followed by the
establishment of her own advertising agency in Chandigarh in 1997

Education[edit]
Aggarwal is an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis[5] and holds a
post-graduation degree in advertising and public relations. [6] She was also
part of an executive program at Stanford University.[5]

Career[edit]
Aggarwal worked in marketing for companies like Nordstrom in Seattle and
strategic planning at Goldman Sachs.[4] She holds about 14 years of
experience in the US in diverse sectors such as e-commerce, lifestyle,
fashion, and retail.[6]

Radhika Ghai Aggarwal is the Co-founder and Chief Business


Officer at ShopClues.com. She is also the first Indian woman
founder to enter the prestigious echelons of the Unicorn Club. As
a Co-founder of ShopClues and the driving force behind its go-to-
market initiatives, she has carefully nurtured the brand to make it
a house-hold name in less than 5 years. Having worked for
Goldman Sachs in Wealth Management and Nordstrom in the
Strategy Planning Department, Aggarwal has diverse experience
across industry segments such a retail, e-commerce, fashion and
lifestyle, advertising, and public relations, all summing up to 16
years. She started on her entrepreneurial journey with her first
venture, FashionClues, a social portal for NRI women. Aggarwal
was recently awarded the ‘CEO of the Year’ Award in the Start-Up
category at the prestigious CEO India Awards, 2016. She is an
accomplished speaker and is a staunch supporter of woman
entrepreneurship, having shared her thoughts on several
including TiE and other industry events. She is passionate about
empowering women to assume leadership roles within her
organisation as well within ShopClues’ vibrant community of
merchant partners. An alumnus of the Washington University in
St. Louis, Aggarwal holds an MBA in Strategy. She further went on
to pursue a course in ‘Web 2.0 and Creative Writing’ in Standford
University.

INTRODUCTION
ShopClues is an online marketplace owned by Clues Network Pvt. Ltd.[2] It
was established in July 2011 in Silicon Valley by Sanjay Sethi, Sandeep
Aggarwal and Radhika Aggarwal.[3] Based in Gurgaon, India,[4] the company
claims to have over 6 lakh merchants and 2.8 crore products on its
platform, serving over 32,000 pincodes across the country. [5]
Valued at USD 1.1 billion,[6] ShopClues has Tiger Global, Helion Ventures,
and Nexus Venture Partners as major investors.
ShopClues focuses on unstructured categories of home and kitchen,
fashion, electronics and daily utility items. Across various categories, the
company highly promotes local as well as regional brands. [7] Around 70% of
its Gross Merchandising Value (GMV) is received from Tier – II and Tier –
III cities.
In June 2016, the online marketplace reached half a million sellers on its
platform, claimed to be the highest in the Indian e-commerce industry.

In 2015, the e-commerce player launched its Android app for sellers, and
later added Windows and iOS apps.[10]

 In June 2015, ShopClues launched a financing platform Capital


Wings to fund its merchants’ businesses.[11]

 In May 2016, joined hands with GoDaddy to assist its small and
medium entrepreneurs in starting their own e-commerce websites. [12]

 In July 2016, launched an ad platform, AdZone wherein sellers may


market their products with the help of native and custom advertising. [13]
Acquisition[edit]
In July 2016, ShopClues collaborated with a hybrid e-commerce company,
StoreKing to promote its products on the latter’s app. In the same year, the
company acquired Momoe, a Bangalore-based mobile payments company.

In 2016 ShopClues acquired the IP of a SaaS platform from Squeakee


Media which was founded by Abrar Shaikh in Mumbai, India. [16]

In December 2015, the company invested towards seed funding in HeyBiz,
which is a real-time shopping assistant app.[17]

In January 2016, ShopClues raised USD 100 million from Tiger Global
Management and joined the Unicorn Club.[18]

Controversy[edit]
In August 2015, the owner of the brand Ray-Ban, Luxottica Group accused
ShopClues of allegedly selling fake products and took up the issue in court.
The Delhi High Court pulled up ShopClues for breaching its earlier order
and continuing the sale of Ray-Ban products.[19]

The ShopClues board has come out in support of the company's current
management led by Sanjay Sethi and Radhika Aggarwal,saying that it was
disappointing to see ex-founder, Sandeep Aggarwal, who disassociated from
the company due to his criminal wrong doings, get engaged in a personal
vendetta on a public forum with his wife.
"We are proud of the fantastic progress made by the ShopClues team under
Radhika and Sanjay's leadership. We remain focused on working closely with
them and the management team to continue to scale the company as it
captures the massive opportunity which lies ahead of us," the statement said.
TOI reported in its March 14 edition that Sandeep had publicly accused his
wife and co-founder Radhika of pushing him out of the company he founded in
2011. Sandeep now runs another startup Droom which he founded in 2014.

Shopclues is backed by the New York-based Tiger Global, GIC, the sovereign
wealth fund of Singapore and early investors like Nexus Venture Partners .
