HOLIDAY HOMEWORK - 2010

ENGLISH

Get Activated! Change your life. Change your World. ‘Our choices shift and change the course of
our lives’.

Create a Notebook of about 12, A4 size sheets. This should be a spiral Notebook, titled ‘Change
is in the air!’ Include the following:

a) The text for a class assembly, using 3 speakers titled ‘How to be more productive, effective
and organized’ Using tips on a change of attitude, effective planning and identifying top 5 Time
Wasters, your organizational speech should be interesting and useful.

b) A character sketch of about 250 words in the form of an essay on any one of the following:

a) Brutus (JC) b) Antony (JC)

c) Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) d) The Mothers (Night of the Scorpion)

c) An article (250 words) and a pictorial collage (A4 size) on any one of the following:

i. The Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi as a dream city or a Nightmarish Mess?

ii. Advertisements should be informative and educational; but most of them are misleading
and incorrect. Provide a title: ‘Are we being taken for a ride?’

iii. Relate how the reading and study of literature has enriched and refined you. Choose 2 or
3 books that have left an impact on your life.

Kindly ensure that the written material in you ‘Notebook’ is original. Any references that are
used should be mentioned clearly. Let the English assignment be the most creative and
interesting work that you do this summer.

1. History of Mathematics – Include the following sub topics:


a) Story of digits 0-9
b) Story of π
c) History of Pythagoras Theorem
2. Geometry in real life: In this project, the students should try to find situations in daily
life where mathematical concepts can be effectively used.
3. Contributions of the following Mathematicians:
a) Aryabhatta
b) Euclid
c) Pythagoras

Guidelines for the project: Each student will prepare and submit one project from the above
mentioned topics. Following essentials are required to be fulfilled for its preparations:

a) Total length of the project report will be 10-12 pages (atleast)


b) The project will be hand-written and credit will be awarded to original drawings,
illustrations and creative use of materials.
c) The project will be developed in this sequence:

Following guidelines should be followed while preparing the projects.

• The total length of the project should be around 15 written pages of A-4 size.

• The project report should be neatly presented in a folder / file.

• The project should be presented in the following order: Cover page, list of contents,
Acknowledgements, project aim, chapters, bibliography.

• Pictures in your project should be labeled and acknowledged.

(a) Draw a circuit diagram consisting of a battery having 3 cells, a bulb, a closed
(tapping) switch, an ammeter to measure current & a voltmeter to find the

(b) State Ohm’s law. Analyzing the graph calculate the Resistance. What are the
factors on which Resistance of a conductor depends?
