MESSAGE FROM CHIEF MINISTER
It gives me great pleasure to extend to all of you a very warm Sarawak welcome
to TEDxKenyalang 2017 especially to our speakers from outside Sarawak. To our
homegrown speakers, I would like to thank you for making Sarawak proud.
It is gratifying to know that the TED event, with its origins in New York, finds a
new home here in our beautiful Sarawak. As I understand it is the initiative and
vision of independent bodies that carry the TED name to other parts of the world.
I say well done to the organizer and I hope TEDx will continue to flourish in
Sarawak.
The very notion that “Ideas Worth Spreading” is key to unlocking the potential of
the future. Discussions often lead to inspiration. Inspiration then leads to
innovation. I believe this event can also contribute to conversations and actions
that can lead to Sarawak’s aspiration to be a digital economy in not too distant a
future.
I believe TEDx would help to attract people from all over the world who might not
have come to visit us under ordinary circumstances. From industry leaders,
corporate and government decision makers, and major investors - these are
people who have tremendous ideas that should be shared with others. I wish to
especially acknowledge the contribution of our youth who are taking part in the
event either as delegates or volunteers.
I sincerely hope that your encounter here with like-minded people will create long
lasting partnership in the expansion of knowledge and ideas. TEDxKenyalang is
a welcome addition to the series of international events in Sarawak and I
certainly hope that it will make Sarawak “Land of the Hornbills” better known to
the world.

Firstly, as Curator of TEDxKenyalang, I wish to extend a warm welcome to all of you.
Thank you for being part of the “Ideas Worth Sharing” worldwide revolution. It began
with humble intentions but with big dreams- and we are proud to contribute to the State
a dynamic platform that is the independently organized TED talk, right here in Sarawak.
KOBIS is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with a vision to become the driving
force for Sarawak youth to embark development and enhance their growth through
entrepreneurship, innovation, skills and career by maximizing potential and strengths
towards making positive impacts in the society. With our vision as our driving force, we
felt like TED resonated with our identity and what we hope to achieve. Empowering our
youths today, for tomorrow!
TED, as a brand and a movement, has set a new benchmark for conferences around
the world. To date, since its inception in 2009, the TED archive has amassed over
100,000 talks from across the globe!
We hope to bring the Official TED Global Conference to the state of Sarawak in the next
few years. It is with great hope that we can empower the community to connect and
conceive ideas through local TED-like experiences as a platform for the global audience
to immerse in a learning experience like no other.
In line with Sarawak’s digital aspirations, we understand that the concept of TED talks
(Technology, Entertainment & Design) will be a strong contributor and hopefully a
catalyst that will spark greater innovation in multiple sectors.
This year, with the inaugural TEDxKenyalang, we decided on the theme ‘Be the Best’ to
showcase that the success of definition is fluid, and we are all capable of achieving in
our own rights. To be the best is to be the best version of you. To unleash your potential,
to realize your dreams. On the surface, there are stereotypes that ‘being the best’ can
be associated with. But what is important is within each and every one of us.
